I have never ever bought travel insurance. The only time my trip has ever been cancelled was when I was supposed to go to New Orleans during Katrina..but all we lost on that was deposit on hotel. Now with the Belize trip in the fall, the charter and the hotel are recommending insurance. Is there insurance for just cancellation due to weather? I dont need the whole kit and kaboodle...I just want to cover us in case of hurricanes etc..
help? :)

Travel insurance is good for other things too that you may not have thought of. My aunt had their rental car broken into and her purse stolen with all their passports, her wallet, glasses etc. Their trip ended up having to be delayed to get new passports. All expenses, including extra hotel, new passport fees, rental car damage, etc were all covered. The were so thankful they had it because it was about $1500 in expenses. That's my long way of saying, for a trip out of the US I would seriously consider buying the whole kit and kaboodle.

I'm not sure about the weather insurance, but I would recommend having medical evacuation insurance for Belize. The health care there is nowhere near what we are fortunate enough to have here, and if something happened, you would definitely want to be able to get home. I am covered through a policy i get from work, but we got MedJetAssist (http://www.medjetassist.com/) for my husband.
On a related medical topic (a different kind of "insurance" I guess), there is lots of debate about the vaccines you should get before going to Belize - we decided on Hep A, Typhoid, and Malaria. My doctor said that Hep A was the only one she would insist upon, but the other two are highly recommended.
