I'm going to be a bride's maid in August wearing the following dress:
http://watters.com/images/products/fullview/880_1.jpg
in grapefruit pink no less - don't even get me started on the bustle or the fact that she's ordered us ribbons to cut off the waist line
Ok, so I'm supposed to get "silver strappy sandals are the footwear... subtle is key for the shoes."
For me the key is cheap. I don't want to spend any more money (than I already have) on this. I know there are those of you out there who will enjoy the hunt far more than I will. So anyone have any good sites/shoes/ideas? Bring 'em on!

well the ones I found aren't strappy sandals, but I think they would go better with the dress :o I just don't see strappy sandals with this dress...at all. These are all under $60:

You're not going to see any shoe really under all that dress (which I actually think is cute!), so I too would go for the least expensive (Payless), unless:
a) the cheap shoes are truly too uncomfortable for a long day/evening wearing them (and dancing!) - which you'll only know by trying them on
b) you think you might have use for a pair of cute silver shoes and would wear them again with other things, in which case, I'd spend a little more for something I really loved.

Yay! Thank you so much for the help.
And Grace, out of all her dress considerations this definitely is the least of all evils, and I would like it to but putting a belt around it confounds me and also in pink??
Ok, off to Payless and then if not, then to Nine West. I actually have those Nine West shoes in black and love them.

Looks like you have the shoes under control for now. The Nine West is my favorite true sandal of the bunch. The second one Jeanne posted is possibly my favorite.
You probably can't make changes in the dress, but maybe she will decide against the ribbons when the dresses are in. Maybe they'll have a mistake in the order and they'll come in the blue. :p
You do realize there is an unwritten rule that brides pick out hideous dresses for their attendants so they can shine -- or is it to prove they are deliriously in love and truly lost hold of their senses long enough to believe that the dresses really would look great on all the different sizes and shapes and that they would actually be worn again after the wedding? Except ,y wedding, of course! ;) :p

My BF completely agrees, "It's your job to make her look better."
As for wearing the dress again the bride suggested that "after the wedding you could take it in and have it altered to be shorter and dyed so you could wear it again." Yum, yeah, right...
No offense to any soon to be brides, but it really does seem like during wedding planning women become crazy!

Good luck with the wedding, and the pink dress Em. Yes, you are supposed to make the bride look better, but it is often at a great price. Another vote for Payless.

At least you don't have to buy matching grapefruit pink shoes! :p

I would vote for that too with the same caveat as Grace - make sure you can wear the shoe for an extended period without too much discomfort. Since you could get use out of the shoe again, I might go up into the 30 ish range. (Although those Payless ones are quite cute.)

I absolutely love the dress, but a big part of it was the gorgeous shade of blue! Is grapefruit pink in this year?? I missed that article. Please don't tell me that the groomsmen will have matching bow ties.
Let's see -- spend $200 getting a dress died & altered so you can wear it again? Or just go out and spend $100 on an actual dress? Can't decide ;-)
Sounds like you are keeping a good sense of humor about this, which is good.

Yes, it is called "Bride Brain," and the symptoms include forgetfulness, failure to process information, possible tantrums, moment of thinking "Bride" rhymes with "witch" and teary-eyed outbursts. Not to be outdone by scarlett fever or shingles, "Bride Brain" may give way to a subsequent stage in later life --"Baby Brain." But that's another chapter.
At least you don't have to buy matching grapefruit pink shoes! :p
:D :D :D
The comment about the bow ties took me back to when my brother was in high school and the baby blue tux was a hot item. And the ruffled shirts.

I *do* know that white tuxes were huge this year at Prom, which would go well with the grapefruit dress.
May be a regional thing -- I haven't seen a single white tux here this year -- not that my kids are prom age yet -- just saw a lot of the kids out the last few weekends.
A summer tux -- white diner jacket, black pants, would look nice with the pink. It's just hard to think pink wedding and not feel like you're coated in cotton candy. But I'm a blue person and love that dark blue too. Hmm starting to sound like my wedding again -- the only pink was in the attendants' flowers.

I would try New York City Shoes, they are very reasonable. Hmmm  ... Don't know if that's just a Jersey store.... Or try Payless.

This is exactly the kind of thing I didn't want to do to my bridesmaids... I decided we're all too old for this. So I asked them to wear a tea length black dress that was between spaghetti straps and short sleeves. All three ended up with very similar dresses that cost less than $100, and they have all worn them again since. I am trying to convince my sister to do the same thing, but she's still saying that she wants her EIGHT bridesmaids in pink. Yuck.
And talk about bride brain. She told me that it would be rude for me to get pregnant before her wedding because I might take attention away from her. Sorry honey, but at 32 I don't think I'm going to wait just so I'm not pregnant on your wedding day. I am going to make sure I'm not due on her wedding day though!

One of my dear friends did the BEST thing when she got married - she asked her bridesmaids to pick a black dress they already owned out of the closet and wear that to the wedding!!!! It helps when you get married a bit older, I think - perhaps it makes you less prone to Bride Brain.

LOL! What a rude and insensitive bridesmaid you would be! Don't you know where your priorities are?? I've been to several weddings over the years with a pregnant bridesmaid. I actually think it's kind of sweet -- it just adds to the whole love aura in the air! Sounds like you might need a lot of champagne on that evening, though.
