I've read through lots of the smoothie topics and can't find the answer I'm trying to find. Can anyone suggest the name of a smoothie book that is tried and true?? I'm looking more for "healthier" than recipes with ingredients that are impossible to find. YUMMY is the main goal. I've looked on book-sites, but I never know when I can believe the actual reviews (sometimes, I suspect the authors of particular books have their friends write the reviews.)

Thanks!

Melman, I thought seriously about buying a book devoted to smoothies a few weeks ago when I discovered these wonderful things, but DH and I kind of figured most of it was a no-brainer, and we should save our money. What works for us is 2 cups of our favorite fruit, frozen. One cup of each, if we're mixing fruits. 2/3 cup skim milk (or juice), a tsp of honey or sugar, a TBS of vanilla-flavored soy protein powder, and a tsp of vanilla! Blend until smooth.

We don't use yogurt because we find the Soy Protein powder cheaper, easier to use, and healthier in the long run! It also helps thicken it a little. We're combining fruits and finding our favorites! DH likes a cup of frozen peaches and a banana made with Orange juice, and I like frozen blueberries and a banana made with skim milk. My guilty pleasure, however, is 2 frozen bananas, a TBS of peanut butter, a squirt of chocolate syrup and skim milk...YUM! These make a tall glass that we just savor on the weekends!

If I run across a book at a good price I'll probably buy it, but in the meantime we're just saying "ooh, how would frozen strawberries and frozen kiwis be together!" and giving it a shot! Good luck! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/biggrin.gif

I'm really new to these things. Another outcome of reading this BB. ;-) So far, I've experimented only with using non-fat yogurt as the base and throwing in various fruits. Yes...strawberries and kiwi are really good together. That was one of the major success stories.

I bought a carton of that Vitasoy vanilla soymilk the other day and thought about experimenting with that. I'll have to see if I can find the vanilla soy protein powder. Sounds like a book is sort of a waste of money and "playing" is the better idea. Of course, there are the other dozens of ideas in the other smoothie topics. Those are all probably much better than any one book will have!!!

Thanks for the suggestions!!!

Here is my favorite smoothie recipe:

1 carton ff yogurt (peach, or whatever flavor you like)
1/2 cup skim milk
1/2 cup oj
1/2 cup sliced frozen banana
1/2 cup other fruit (raspberries, strawberries, etc.)
sometimes I add a scoop of soy protein
1/2 cup ice cubes
blend
