I'm wanting to learn more about different wines and thought someone could recommend a good book. (what wine to pair with what meal, recommendations on specific wines, etc.
I'm a cabernet drinker and just always stick with that, I'd like to branch out!

There is a book that I got for my husband for Christmas. Its called "Wine Savvy: The Simple Guide to Buying and Enjoying Wine Anytime, Anywhere". Heidi Yorkshire is the author.
It was recommended by CL in their October or November (or December) 2000 issue. It is about $10-12. I got it at Borders, but I think it may be out of print, I remember I had to try a couple of places before I could find a copy. I just checked amazon.com and they have new issues for $12.95 and used for $7.95.
I have only read part of it (DH has it with him in CO) but it is a nice basic book that talks about what it means to have "full-bodied" wine, and "if you like ___ then you should try ___" type of things.

If you want a wine book that tells you how to interpret labels I have a suggestion for you. The book is called Windows on the World Complete Wine Course by Kevin Zraly. It's not a very big book but it is packed with information. The book talks about wines from different area of France, Germany, California, etc... in the aspects on what types of grapes are grown, how they go with certain meals, and how they are labeled. If you have the ability to remember all the information in the book you probably could pick a bottle of wine off the shelf, look at its label, and know what it would go best with. I guess it all depends on how serious you are. It looks like the cover price is $25 but I honestly don't know since I got the book at a discount bookfair at work. Good luck and have fun.
