Recently I've noticed several CL recipes that call for chipotle chilies in adobo sauce. I have looked high and low, but can't find them in my large market. I live between Boston and Providence and never before had a problem finding an ingredient.
Any suggestions on where to find them? I have purchased the dried chipotles in the produce section of the market. Anyone else in New England able to find these babies?
Thanks in advance!

If you cannot find them in the ethnic section of your grocery store and/or if you do not have an ethnic market near you, a great source for the chipotles in adobo and many other ingredients is www.ethnicgrocer.com (http://www.ethnicgrocer.com) . I have used that site many times and have always been pleased with it.

I haven't had a problem finding them at any of the stores in this not-so-big town in SC. They're usually crammed between the refried beans, enchilada sauce, chilies, and other cans in the Mexican food section of the store. It's a smaller can (7-ounces) than the refried beans, etc. Good luck!

I live in Podunk http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif and our local Walmart (Supercenter) has them right where Melman describes. 77 cents a can! Woo Hoo!!!!

It also helps if the area in which you live has a larger hispanic population. The commisary where I shop in Hawaii doesn't carry them, but I have found a local market that does. But the price is dear, about $2.00 a 4 oz. can! Thank goodness when I posted my very first thread here asking how to store them, someone suggested freezing them. Helps me justify that $2.00 price tag. On the flip side, my mom lives in a farming community in Washington State which has a large hispanic population and she can get them very inexpensively and said she will bring me a few cans when she comes to visit.

La Morena is the brand I get, same place Melman mentioned. Two dollars a can, Oh My!! La Morena is 7 oz., we also have a Goya brand, smaller can. Don't you just love them??

Hi Lauren -
I looked again yesterday at Stop & Shop. They have the La Costena brand with a bunch of other products - jalepenos, beans etc. but no chipoltes in adobo sauce. They are currently out of stock at ethinic grocer.com (probably all the Cooking Light people buying them up!) On mexgrocer.com they offer 4 brands of them but they will be coming from CA. I will look for them when I am in AL - they have a super walmart there and I bet they will have them there!

You can also get them at Smart & Final. It's like Costco, but much smaller and no membership required. Not sure if there is one in your area as I am in California.
Hi Lauren,
I've been looking for the same thing for a long time. However, in the last year or so they've popped up everywhere! I've also found them at a Walmart Supercenter, Winn Dixie, Tom Thumb (Safeway) and Whole Foods Market as well as online as other have mentioned. I live in Dallas so finding Mexican ingredients shouldn't be hard. I never went to Fiesta but I'm quite sure they have them too.
If you still can't find them anywhere, I suggest you order the hard paperback book by Mark Miller, chef/owner of Coyote Cafe in Santa Fe and Red Sage in DC called "the Great Chili Book". In the back of this small book you will find a recipe for homemade Chilis in Adodo Sauce.
Hope this helps.
