Every day for the past week I have gotten a call from a collection agency. It starts with a recording saying "We have a call for Karen R. Please hold." They are trying to collect money from a different Karen R from a Chadwick's account from 5 years ago. Twice I have actually held on hoping to clear this up and get them to leave me alone. But they keep calling!! They even leave automated messages on my machine.

How many times must I tell them it's not me! Any idea how to get them to bugger off?

I had the same thing happen, but it was on my cell phone using up my precious minutes. I finally got ahold of a human being and told them I had turned their phone number over to the local police and the State Attorney General's office for harrassment. That stopped the calls.

(They had a total wrong number. It wasn't even a similar name! )

Jelllyben: go online & find an 800# for the original company & then call it & explain the situation. Make sure that you tell them that you have never had an account w/ this company & never will in the future. The original company will have to deal w/ contacting the collection agency.

A few weeks ago I had a local bank (that I do not bank with) repeatedly calling me wanting my account # so they could order the checks I requested. HELLO?!?! You are the bank & you don't have my account #!?!? Scam alert!! So I call the bank & tell them that I am not the person they are looking for. Then I get another call the same as the others. I call again & after going thru 3 different people, I am told that they must have pulled my name from the phone book or white pages web site. You are a bank & don't have any information on a way to contact me other than those 2 sources??  I finally told the woman that I had never banked w/ them & certainly never would in the future if that was their manner of doing business. She was really pissy w/ me, too.

The scarry thing was that this was a legit call!

Karen, also tell the company that if the calls do NOT stop that you will report them for violating the Fair Debt Collection Act.

Do you ever talk to a live person when the auto-dialer calls you? If so, tell them AGAIN that you are NOT the person that they want and that if they continue to contact you by ANY METHOD, you will report them for violation also.
