The folks I've known who worked for the company speak very highly of it in general. That said, each store will have a different "personality" depending upon the individual management. They have great benefits - even for part timers - and it can be a really fun environment. I say go for it - and check out the crew you'd be working for before you decide one way or the other.

Although I have never worked there, nor do I know anyone who works there, I have heard that they are a great company to work for. I believe it is Starbucks that also offers shares or stocks to their employees as well. They apparantly treat their employees well.

Go for it Matt! As a Seattle Coffee Fan I can say that the three biggies around here, Starbucks, Tully's, and Seattle's Best Coffee (SBC) are all supposed to be wonderful companies to work for. In fact, I harbor a secret desire to abandon my food industry office job and apply at Tully's plant which is only about 5 miles from my current job http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/wink.gif ... they all supposedly take really good care of their employees and they know that they have an image and a culture to uphold, so they make themselves an example to other businesses in the area. Let us know how it goes!! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/biggrin.gif

Matt-

I worked for Starbucks for 8 years (!) and was with the company during its period of tremendous growth. I was also one of the few partners (that's what they call employees, so that should tell you something about the corporate culture there) who was in on the first stock option offer, which helped me pay off my debts and enroll in college. It's like many other customer service jobs, in that your experience there as far as work environment is often predicated on what kind of manager you have. The corporation itself has its heart in the right place, and offers competitive pay and benefits, but your manager can make or break your experience there, and I've had managers who have run the gamut of fantastic to awful. However, the one truly awful manager I had was let go because enough of us were willing to approach her boss & present him with documentation of our problems with the work environment. While the company realizes that high turnover is the name of the game in retail, it does not want to lose good people unnecessarily. The fact that our District Manager was willing to listen to our issues and give our word weight makes me very proud of the company. When I was leaving the company 3 years ago, some things had changed for the worse-short-sighted cost-cutting approaches were undermining the company's relationship to its employees-but it was still one of the best retail outfits to work for, it just wasn't the company I had started with. But you get that sometimes with growth, and I didn't leave because of how the company was changing. I left because I was offered a good position in my professional field & was only too happy to leave the world of wearing an apron to work. All in all, it's a great job for while you're in school.

I have worked for Starbucks for two and a half years now and couldn't be happier! Not only does Starbucks have a great product, my favorite part of working for the company is the people that I work with each day. We have a very strong culture and are committed to quality and customer service. Plus, Starbucks does a great job of taking care of their partners, especially with offering benefits to part-time partners. We'd love to have you check us out!

My son started working for Starbucks about a month ago. He loves it -- says the people are great.

This is not really related to the original question but I LOVE Starbucks coffee and was wondering if, one of you who work there, would be able to share how you make the vanilla latte`? I don't know if you're allowed to do that or not and it's not that I'd quit going to Starbucks for it, but I'd really like to know the proper portions. If you can't share that's okay. Thank you in advance! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif
