This is a sad and happy story. Dogs got hold of a mama opossum Thursday night. We found 4 dead babies and dead mama in yard Friday AM. While I was picking up Holly from swim practice, he intended to pick up Mama and get her ready for the trash (early afreement in our marriage is that I would clean litter boxes if he would pick up all dead things). He found 4 live babies clinging to her.

After a bunch of calls, I found a wildlife rescuer who would take them, and ran them 60 miles to Angleton. They are really young - weighed 16 grams. We watched her feed them (syringe tube down throat to stomach - 0.2 mls) and checked out some of the other animals that she had - birds, deer, raccoons. Pretty cool hobby.

We went to Surfside beach after since it was only 20 minutes away.

Bottom line, I'm glad we saved them, but young or old, they are still ugly!

Yay for you for saving them! Will you keep in touch to find out how they're doing?

Good for you. We have a fair number of possums right here in the Heights. There was a big old one that used to sit on the fence at night and tease Valentine the doggerham. Now that she's gone, there are feral cats that have adopted our backyard --- the kittens are adorable, but they're ruining my garden despite my cayenne pepper, etc. Anyhow, I think mama cat is weaning, because we found a half-eaten baby possum on our patio last week.

How funny your posted about possoms today!

My coworker and I were sitting at our desks eating lunch. Well, I had just finished and she was still eating. We have a huge window in our office facing the parking lot  . All of a sudden, my coworker points and screams, "what is THAT"? I began to scream . All I saw was this gray, scraggy rat looking thing with a HUGE tail. It was up against the window running around trying to finds it way. After 30 seconds of screaming, the admin. assistant outside our office runs in as we then proceed to laugh. He said it was just a baby possom and we had nothing to worry about since it was outside. Duh! But it was soooo ugly.

A few minutes later we saw a bird acting strange and walking towards our window. It was like having The Discovery Channel outside our window :p .

That was very thoughtful of you to rescue them :)
