I saw a recipe that included fresh strawberries, balsamic vinegar and black pepper, maybe nothing else, I don't recall. Does this ring a bell with anyone? The berries were maserated (sp) in this mixture and served in stemmed glasses -- sounded easy and elegant. Any ideas? TIA

There's this recipe but it's served with yoghurt:

Michael Chiarello has a really good one with those ingredients that we have made and love. Hope this helps. :)

Marinated Pazzo Berries with Balsamic Vinegar
2 cups strawberries, stemmed and quartered
6 tablespoons balsamic vinegar
1/2 cup superfine sugar
Sea salt, preferably gray salt, and freshly ground black pepper
6 large Italian biscotti, broken into small pieces
4 ounces marscarpone cheese, stirred to a smooth consistency

Place the strawberries in a bowl. In a small bowl, whisk together the vinegar, sugar, salt and pepper. Let stand for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally to completely dissolve the sugar. Pour the marinade over the berries and gently toss to coat.

Divide the biscotti pieces into 4 bowls. Spoon the berries and some of the marinade over each and top with a dollop of marscarpone. Serve immediately.

That's actually one of our favorite easy ways to enjoy strawberries!

I can't remember where we first encountered it, but this recipe from Epicurious is pretty close, except it doesn't include the freshly ground black pepper, which we just sprinkle on at the end. It's really an amazing grouping of flavors and so easy to put together. Sometimes I add a dab of butter into the sauce at the end.

BALSAMIC-GLAZED STRAWBERRIES OVER ICE CREAM

This recipe can be prepared in 45 minutes or less.

6 large ripe strawberries
2 tablespoons balsamic vinegar
2 tablespoons packed brown sugar
about 1 1/2 cups super-premium vanilla ice cream

Trim strawberries and cut into wedges. In a small heavy saucepan heat vinegar and brown sugar over moderate heat, stirring, until sugar is dissolved and simmer 1 minute. Remove pan from heat and add strawberries, tossing to coat. Scoop ice cream into 2 bowls and top with warm glazed strawberries.

Serves 2.
