View Full Version : Has anyone had a really deep bone bruise?

I got hit w/a golf ball going 100 mph in late Dec. While it's not bruised anymore, there's a dent there and it's sore to pressing on it. I also feel small little lumps. Am I stuck with this forever? I never think about it when I go to the doc once a year...

Yup, got it waterskiing. It took over a year and a half for all the color/bumps to go away.
First and last time waterskiing :)

While I've not had a deep bone bruise I did have vascular surgery last August and the insides of my thighs are still very tender and the left one still has some slight discoloration...not sure that it's a bruise exactly. I go back to the surgeon on July 17 so I'm hoping for some answers. So I don't think it would be unusual to still have tenderness after seeing the picture! Ouch!!!

That's a nasty one.
I had this happen September '04, it looked just like your boo-boo, luv2cook. I was taking our puppy outside, it was raining, I was wearing flip-flops, my feet hydro-planed right off of the puddle on the stone steps. I injured my shin, a few inches above the ankle. It's a wonder that dog every came near me again.
Just like Chefzhat, it took well over a year for the discoloration and major bump to subside. There is still a slight swelling to that spot.

wow. really? ok. I feel better then. No one I know has ever been hit by a golf ball. Unfortunately, my DH is a great golfer and a fast swing. He felt really bad about it. It brought me to my knees immediately, but I am SO glad it was not my head. I really feel like it would have killed me.
You could actually see the dimples of the ball in my pants! we joked that we could see Nike written there! :p
edited to add: it blew the veins on my leg, too. from now on I don't stand too far away from the tee box! BUT in my defense, my DH had NEVER EVER done that before. Now if that was his boss, I would have been hiding behind a tree!

When we were playing soccer(an over 30 league and we were over 40) there were a couple of guys that had played professionally. One guy talked my DH into taking a header in front of the goal for a goal...at the last second DH chickened out and took the ball in his chest. He had the pattern of the ball on his chest for over a month! He still says he's glad he didn't take it as a header! :p
I take it the photo was taken in Dec.?
Did you see when I posted about the granite that fell on my leg? A lot more weight than in your situation, but I was lucky that it had almost no momentum. It fell only inches and then slid against my leg to pin it. My shin is still not completely smooth, but is close. I don't know if it will get any better or not, but it's not enough of a bump or dip now to be obvious. It took months for the bruising to fade and the deeper soreness to resolve -- and that was with icing and elevating it daily for at least a week and everytime I could after walking and it swelling for 2-3 months. It really does take time. I would expect the soreness to resolve and possibly some of the bumpiness too. That area might not ever be exactly as it was, but it sounds like you are still healing. Amazing, isn't it?

I play soccer and have had some really lovely bruises. The last game I played was in the middle of May and I still have a slight bruise on the inside of my knee. I can't imagine getting hit by a golf ball at high speed! I'm sure it will take some time to heal completely.

Did you see when I posted about the granite that fell on my leg? Nope. I will have to hunt it down.
Yes,the photo was taken in Dec. I never saw anything swell so fast in my life! The rest of the day I felt like I had a big slab of meat attached to my leg and played my best golf ever (even tho I could barely walk!)

It'll go away, eventually. Mine did.

I got hit in the shin with a softball (that was not very soft). It did take a while for the dent to go away!

Was that from a slapshot Mary Kate?

Yes, as are most of the beauties I come home with. :D The puck always manages to find the tiny places that aren't covered with pads. This past December, I had to wear black stockings (UGH!) to a wedding because I had such an ugly, gigantic bruise on my calf ... that one still hurts a bit, but three are no outward signs of it anymore. (Yay, no stockings!)

I definitely have bumps on the bones of my hands and some tenderness/numbness from the dog bite I got in April. I'm hoping they'll dissapate with time but who knows.
Mary Kate, that's absolutely lovely!

Ouch! I'll bet your poor (but not as poor as you!) DH felt terrible!
I bone-bruised both shins in highschool PE when I got distracted as I jumped up onto a 2.5-foot high box made of plywood. I missed the box and whacked it HARD with both shins.
To this day, those little spots on my shins are slightly indented and sensitive to pressure. I'm 28.
Last fall, I got pitched over the shoulder of a bolting horse who stopped suddenly. As I fell, the saddle horn caught my inner thigh and left a deep bruise all the way down to my knee. It's still tender if I press hard on the muscle, but I think it'll recover completely in time. And I'm riding English (no saddle horn) from now on!! :p (Actually, I almost always ride English or bareback anyway -- now I know why!)
Oh, and FWIW, my riding helmet saved my life in that fall. I landed hard, on packed earth, headfirst.
