I'd like to make the Spicy Steak Fries from March 2000 with sweet potatoes instead of baking potatoes. (Basically, you just cut the potatoes into wedges, sprinkle w/ a seasoning blend, and bake at 400 for 40 minutes.)

I usually use a creole seasoning for those fries, and thought this might give a nice sweet/spicy taste when put on sweet potatoes. Does anyone have any seasoning suggestions for sweet potatoes?

Also, is the baking time the same for white potatoes and sweet potatoes? I dont' usually cook sweet potatoes, so I'm not sure.

TIA! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif

I think that the creole seasoning would be great on the sweets as well. I love using rosemary, salt, and garlic on my sweet potato fries. It seems to me that they cook faster than regular potatoes-perhaps due to the natural sugars caramelizing sooner! Enjoy-those are one of my favorite things.

beccathebaker, thanks! the fries turned out to my liking using the creole seasoning and baking for 35 minutes. unfortunately, DH didn't care for them... i don't know why he waited until AFTER dinner to tell me he doesn't like sweet potatoes! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif

Ladies & Gentleman,

Last night I oven baked sweet potato fries. I cooked the (1/2") wedges (from one sweet potato tossed with 1 tablespoon of olive oil and a little cayenne) for 45 minutes at 400. Make sure you have a non stick pan AND use cooking spray or your fries will stick to the pan like nobody's business. Flip after 25 minutes too. I served them with a sour cream dip made with 1 cup of low fat sour cream and 3/4 chopped green onion !! They're excellent. Slightly sweet and super healthy (they're actually known as the women's vegetable) Very healthy for you lady folk http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif and me too I guess !!
