I just got my July issue, and this chowder looks wonderful (pg 116)! Has anyone out there made it yet? It says you can substitute shrimp for the lobster which I plan to do.

Julie,
I haven't received my July CL yet...but I did get my July Gourmet. There's a great, very easy recipe for "Tarragon Lobster Salad" that you can also put on hotdogs buns for "lobster rolls"...yum...I'm dying to try the lobster chowder when the darn magazine gets to PA!

Gabby, what a coincidence! The July CL also has a recipe of "Lobster Rolls" and it looks heavenly! I hope your issue arrives soon. Mine came last Wednesday. By the way, I see that you have family in Florida. Are they near me in Fort Lauderdale?

I've been dying to make this chowder too and the whole article inspired me to have a lobster bake this weekend. Everyone is going to bring their own lobsters though cuz I'd go broke if they didn't. Instead of lobster meat I'm going to make the chowder with shrimp. I'll let you know how it comes out. My mom told me to save the lobster shells after the dinner and make a fish stock with them the next day. Then I'll freeze it and use it for a future chowder. I have a couple of awesome fish and clam chowder recipes but they're not low in fat. Special occasion only.

I probaby will buy the lobster meat .. did you use the equal parts clam juice & chicken broth? Also, if one chooses to make the stock from the shells step 2... It says to combine lobster shells - does this mean the body & all, the whole nine yards? And third and last question.. lol.... Is this chowder juicy (and have enough) for a thinner chowder. I love soups or chowders that aren't like what I would call stew thickness. When my husband & I were blessed to visit Bar Harbor, Maine we feasted on the most delicious Lobster chowder ever possible! (and as article says! best lobster on earth!) The name of the place escapes me -- but those that know of this place - this will ring the bell. It was known for their popovers (we went back 3 times for that delicious chowder & popovers!) and is located in the park where once the affluent rode by carriage to drink tea and eat those wonderful popovers!! donned in beautiful long dresses w/prasols! Hope someone knows of this place & jolt my senior moment mind that went shopping !! Oops! I added 4th question..see! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/wink.gifThanks! Barbra
Barbra2001, someone posted a review of this chowder yesterday, I think. Look for the thread and post your questions again there if you don't get your answers here. I haven't made this yet but the person that reviewed it said it was very good!
