Hi everyone, I stumbled accross an informercial for Turbo Jam this morning while I was feeding my 2-month old son. As the mother of three, I almost exclusively do videos at home, but only Karen Voight. I've tried a couple others but might as well have been tearing up $20 bills. Turbo Jam looks intriguing.

Is Turbo Jam "all that"?

Also, after searching the dvd exercisers thread, I see Cathe's name mentioned regularly. After googling her, I see she has many dvd's to choose from. Given my situation (20 lbs to lose and a Karen Voight fanatic) can you recommend one of Cathe's videos as a good introduction? She got rave reviews on Amazon so I figure she's a sure bet.

Thanks!
Rena

Hye I'm a vidiot as my friends politely call themselves (huge exercise video collections between us). I would suggest going to videofitness.com and do a short search on Turbo Jam. The reason is because there are some folks who love, love, LOVE TJ and other who are like - yuk!. They give some reasons why so if you look you may be able to see if you think along the same lines. One thing that most folks really like is that they are short time wise so that you can squeeze them in when you can't get in a full hour.

As for Cathe - well for the longest time she scared me  But she has recently put out 'beginner' workouts that I got and enjoyed (high on choreography and impact :( ) I haven't done much Karen so I can't really say. I have Firm, TLT and WHFN workouts if you want to know about any of those I can give you some info. I hope that Joanne will pop on this thread as she might have something to contribute. If not pop over to the DVD workout thread and pose the question - the ladies there will be more than happy to give you information/suggestions :D We're a friendly supportive group and several of the gals have young ones.

I attend a Turbo Kick class at the YMCA, which looks very similar to the infomercial. I love the class. It's great cross training and I like the dance moves it incorporates. I am also debating purchasing it, however I have neighbors downstairs and don't want them to complain with all the jumping. Keep us posted if you purchase the set.

Rena, I have some of the Turbo Jam workouts. I agree with Engineer, go over to videofitness.com - some people hate them, some love them, so I'd hesitate to recommend them to you. I do like them, the music is great, but I don't really do them often - I don't think I get that great of a workout from them. If you're looking for more advanced workouts, get the most recent set - it's Cardio Party 3 and Kick, Punch, Jam, and I think a toning workout. I don't like the toning workouts at all.

I have lots of Cathe DVDs and love her. Are you looking for cardio, weights, or both? Do you have a step? Cardio and Weights and Imax2 come on one DVD and are both great workouts, but need a step. For weights, any of hers is good, but I like Muscle Max alot. Oh, and Step, Jump, and Pump is a great combination of weights, hi/lo and step.

RenaH, did you purchase the TurboJam tapes? I'm curious to know what you think about them.

And JoanneOR, are the workouts not advanced enough? I would be a beginner, so I'm thinking they would be okay for me.

No, I haven't purchased them yet. I plan on waiting until September because I'm not motivated to learn a new regime yet. I'll post my opinion so stay tuned....

Okay so I bought Turbo Jam from QVC and I like it. It's only been two weeks so I can't say I love it YET. The instructor, Chalene Johnson is a genuinely nice person and a good teacher. She also cracks me up. The music is good, but can hardly be heard over Chalene's instruction. The first few times my knees were really angry, but then I switched to a few of the low-impact options and my knees are grateful. I definitely get sweaty, even with the 20-minute workout. The folks working out with Chalene are intriguing individuals who really seem to like one another, so they make a great team, and they are welcoming to the viewer.

The most surprising revelation was that it's a great arm workout. My arms were sore for several days. It's too soon to see results in my abdominal area, but I find myself doing the pelvic tuck in other workouts now, so hopefully improvement is on the way. I'm pretty sure I'll get my money's worth.

Bumping this....I'm looking for home workout options.

Anyone else have opinions on TurboJam?

RenaH--are you still around? What do you think?
