Rummy (Gin, call, 500)
Solitare (and all of the variations)
Spit
Speed
Cribbage
War

Bridge
7-up (I think this has another name but I can't recall it)
Casino
52 card pickup ;)
There are so many solitaire games that vary so much that I don't think listing them all generically is "fair"
Clock
Pyramid
What's the one where you lay them out one at a time and try to get them all in a stack (can stack if same number and if 4th card is same suit)

I love Canasta...my husband and I used to play this all the time...but we got awfully close to a divorce because if it :D :D (We both became REALLY, REALLY good at this game) I think it may be time for Canasta again...it has been a few years...and we need a little spice in our life :D
Thanks for the reminder SweetTooth!

Sheephead! (Also called Shopskopfh in German...not sure about THAT spelling).
I have never met ANYONE outside of our family who knew how to play this game, so I was very impressed to see it on that list of card games that Sneezles posted. Supposedly invented by a drunk sailor.... :p

Loved this game as a kid!! Haven't thought about it in ages. Actually, I love all card games but married a DH who absolutely does not. The only game he likes is craps.
I'll add poker to the list-
21
5 card draw
7 card draw
night baseball
oops!!! I totally missed poker your list tbb113 until this reply was posting and I specifically looked for it! Gotta finish the coffee!!

This is the same thing with me and my wife - Canasta became nicknamed "NASTY" in our house.
Thanks for the chuckle and acknowledgement that we weren't weird about our card games. or maybe we were

Although, I've been told they are both variations on Rummy, but I don't know how to play Rummy so don't know for sure.

Erin,
Thanks for those links. My sister and I learned how to play that game ( I was thinking they called it Scopola) riding an overnight train through Italy in a car with an Italian family that spoke no English (and we spoke no Italian). What a hoot that was! :p I still have the cards, but had forgotten the rules. I will have to read up!
Thanks again!!!! :)

sneezles, thanks so much for this link. My 6 year old granddaughter is visiting for a few days and she loves to play card games. We have a Michigan Rummy tray but no rules and I forgot how the game went. Yep, they had it, and a millions other games. It will keep my granddaughter in card games the rest of her life. :D Thanks again, Joan Oh, by the way, she loves Michigan Rummy. We are having a ball (nap time now). We have also been playing Rummy Q. She loves that too.

DH's family calls this Up and Down the Ladder.... is this the one where you guess how many tricks you'll take, and if you're off either way, you lose points?
Another name is Oh, He|l

Don't know what "tricks" are. Bluffing about what cards you're holding is involved...don't remember specifics though.
These are both drinking games we played in college.

Ah -- not the same game at all. Wonder what kind of tricks you were thinking of? ;)
A trick consists of each player in turn playing one card face up to the table, and the highest ranking card wins the trick. Pinochle and Bridge are trick-taking games, as is Up and Down the Ladder... :)
