Do you have a favorite field guide to the trees of New England?
We are finally going to do it! We are scheduled for a home exchange in Vermont between October 8 and October 22. The one previous time I was in the Northeast, in July of 1994, the forests looked like an undifferentiated mass of green to me because I didn't know what I was looking at. I would love to be able to recognize at least a few of the trees I will be seeing.
Most of our references are for western trees and the native deciduous trees especially are quite different in the east and the west. I have a venerable Golden Nature Guide Trees: A Guide to Familiar American Trees and that's it. I have found some recommendations on Amazon here (http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=br_ss_hs/002-7950968-5209617?platform=gurupa&url=index%3Dstripbooks%3Arelevance-above&keywords=Field+Guide+New+England+trees&Go.x=8&Go.y=9&Go=Go) but am interested in your experience. I think I am looking for something fairly simple as I am very much a beginner with regard to trees of this region.
Thanks!
Kay
