I have a set of wooden handled knives from Chicago Cutlery. I've heard that you're supposed to oil the handles .... but can anybody explain exactly what I'm supposed to do? How often do I need to do this? Does it matter what type of oil I use? HELP!

You want to oil them because they are wood. If water gets into the wood, it will expand and loosen the blade, even with the rivets holding it into place and your knife will be ruined.
Use a mineral oil, vegetable oil doesn't work because it will go rancid. Just evenly coat the handle, rub the oil in a little and then wipe with a paper towel. Do this every 4 or 6 months, when it looks dry.
Also, with wooden handles NEVER allow the knife to soak in water. Always just rinse and wash the knife by hand and then allow to dry by air drying. If it soaks, the water will get into the handle and crack it and you will lose the knife.
Good Luck!!
