I value many different types of convenience foods, however, there's a line that
shouldn't be crossed - or even a line that
doesn't NEED to be crossed.
This morning in the newspaper I saw a new
product that made my jaw drop.
Peanut Butter and Jelly SLICES. Yes,
slices. Like Kraft Singles slices. All you
have to do is plop them on the bread. What
really terrifies me, far beyond that fact
that PB&J is already stupidly simple, is
wondering what they must add to this stuff
the make them keep form!!!!
Just had to share this one.

What fine food manufacturer is bringing us this engineering marvel? I think this is taking the "Lunchable" concept a little far.

I just saw a report on the news about this yesterday. I tend to agree - EWWW! Apparently much of the idea behind it came directly from those cheese slices, but also getting jelly in the PB jar & vice versa.
However, they did say there are NO preservatives in the stuff (that's why it's in the refrigerator section), but the creators also said they had a hard time getting the water-based jelly together with the peanut butter & keeping it shaped properly. And, no, they didn't go any further into that explanation, not that I'd want to know anyway!

Oh, that's just disgusting. Yuck. I'm grossed out by the whole concept, but I'll be even more horrified if it turns out to be a hit at the market! Who would buy such a thing? This is one time I'm glad to admit I'm a food snob. "I make my own PB&J, thank you very much. Yes, I do it the old fashioned way... pb out of one jar, and jelly out of another. Guess I'm particular that way." http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif

This is going to be my first post on the new bb. With so many new features, I may mess up. But back to the original topic......

I still can't get over that fact that there is a product with PB and J already mixed together in a jar. It grosses me out just thinking about it.
As for the green ketchup, I finally caved and bought some for the kids. Even they were grossed at what it looked like. It was well spent money to throw it out and prove to them that "once again, mom was right" - lol!!!:D

Now this is the ultimate in lazy:eek:, not to mention that the "convenience" is probably very expensive. Green ketchup, I don't understand:confused:.
Guess I got lucky with the green ketchup. Both of my kids said, "yuk" or the equivalent, so I didn't have to buy it. On the last day of my son's scout day camp, they had a special lunch. The theme all week had been a deep sea thing, so they cut one end of the hot dogs into slivers and put them in hot water to heat so each one looked kind of like an octopus. The only ketchup availalbe was "seaweed" green. One son learned he could eat a hot dog without, and the other learned it didn't really taste much different, but he still didn't like it. There were rumors that they are going to release other colors.
However, I must confess that PB&J slices were news to me. I don't see it either.

Hi, I'm from Belgium but has been living in the States for two years now. The latest stupid thing that we had in my country was : Two slices of bread with a slice of ham and a slice of cheese !!! You got it ? All ready to make a grilled cheese and ham sandwich. I thought that this was really the top of laziness !!!

YUCKY!
I don't know if I'm comforted or more frightened by the fact that this is more global than purely American. :o

Wow! This is the latest in a long line of revolting convenience foods...I think the this is probably the laziest thing ever, though. What is scary is that this kind of thing might become the norm. When I was a kid, I thought a "made from scratch" cake was one that came out of a box rather than one that the store made because no one I knew made real "from scratch" cakes anymore. Scary. There's obviously still a market for "Lunchables," even though those beauties merely take existing convenience foods (crackers, bologna, fake cheese) and package them in serving sizes. I wouldn't have thought those could survive, but they keep coming up with new ones. I really wouldn't be surprised if pb & j slices, no matter how lazy and revolting, catch on here in the states. Disappointed, yes. But surprised, no.
