It is going to be VERY hot, humid, sticky & uncomfortable here on Monday for your trip! Should you decide it's too hot to go to the zoo, here is a web site for a great (indoor) children's museum about 20 minutes from Westmont. However, I believe they close at 1:00 on Mondays....

Ooh, I second that recommendation! We've got a membership to DCM, and the kids love it. IMHO, 100 degrees plus 90% humidity doesn't make for a fun trip to the zoo. Hmm, I think we're about due for another trip to the museum--it's been too darn hot to do anything else.

And should you decide to go to the DuPage Children's Museum, it's literally a 5 minute walk from the Naperville Metra station in the BNSF line that goes thru Westmont.

Thanks for the rec, but I am just now seeing the thread :)
We did go to Brookfield and while it was hot, we got there right at 9:30 when they opened and walked around for about 2 hours, then went inside to the indoor children's area where they can do crafts, etc (I forget what it's called). We relaxed in there and Maxwell ran around. He is too young to do most things, but he had fun. We stayed in there for almost 1.5 hours, then went outside and it was so humid it was tough to breathe. Maxwell fell asleep and we did a quick trip to see the giraffes (my fav) and the elephants and then left.
Thank you guys for your tips on transportation for my sis. She did take the Metra both in and out of the city so it was easy for us. Now, if she can just have better luck finding an apartment in the city! :)

So glad you had a good time! You are very brave to have battled that heat! There are services that find chicago apartments, one may be called "Chicago apartment finders". Not too sure, but I'm sure you can Google or Yahoo plenty of help for that one.

Thank you, we did have a good time and stayed hydrated and left before it was too intense.
She has tried the apartment finders and one other agency. She is going back in a week and trying some with craigslist. I think the trouble is they really want to live in the city, but it's hard to find something on a student's budget and the school does not offer much in the way of housing, so it all gets grabbed fast by upperclassmen. Oh well.
Thanks again all for your help. It really made the day better.

Hey Chelle, I'm going to change the subject a bit . . . how is your CSA share going? I was thinking about you yesterday when I was at a farmers market.

Michelle - Definitely have your sister look for apartments in The Reader (a free newspaper), assuming it is still around. That is what I always used to use when I lived in the city, and it was very helpful. I think it used to come out on Thursday evenings, if I remember right. Also, it is good to look at it right when it comes out before all the good places get taken. I didn't find the agencies I used to be particularly helpful, and they also seemed to only refer to the more expensive places.
There is also a website for the paper www.chireader.com (then click on apartments at the top left corner).
