I'm the gal who posted the message about diet colas. I have successfully stopped drinking Diet Dr. Pepper. But, now I have another concern. In my "Diet Cola" trail, I mentioned that I began drinking water with Crystal Light Body Refreshers. I am becoming addicted to this stuff. I'm up to approx. 150 oz of water a day. I will say that I mix less Cystal Light with the water than is suggested. But, Crytal Light contains aspartame.
Does anyone know of a good web site where I can get more info on aspartame?

First of all - aspartame is NutraSweet, or at least a component of NutraSweet. So, it's pretty much the same as what's in diet soda.
If you're looking for a broad range of information, and opinions on both sides of the spectrum, here is a good site to check out:
www.aspartame.org (http://www.aspartame.org)

Don't know of a website, however I know that it is very bad for you and can aggravate IBS (irritable bowel syndrome). It is made from science and not from the earth and I try to stay away from it! May not be what you want to hear. On second thought, try WebMD. Good Luck

I use a lot of sweet and low in tea and where I do know it causes some problems in some studies, I think that would be mainly from if I would drink 10 gallons of tea a day for the rest of my life and use 10 packets for every glass I drink.

For more info on aspartame/NutraSweet you might pick up the book Maximum Energy by Ted Broer at the bookstore. It contains an entire chapter on aspartame and its effects on the human body. Very informative and interesting. The rest of the book is GREAT too! The author is a biologist, chemist, and nutritionist (lots of "ists"), so he has some pretty solid scientific evidence on which foods are healthy and which aren't.

Hi,
I know that this reply comes a little late to this thread, but oh, well, better late than never http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/wink.gif.
I consume quite a bit of diet soda and Crystal Light; however, I have begun attempts to cut back on consumption after reading about the dangers of it on another bulletin board. I'm quite fond of the beverages; however, it seems that the risks of artificial sweeteners could far outweigh the benefits.
Something-Fishy (http://www.something-fishy.org/dangers/sugarfat.php)
One Person's Experience (http://www.dorway.com/health.html)
Nutra-sweet Corporate Site (http://www.nutrasweet.com)
Some of the information in the sites such as side effects could be disturbing; however, the three sites combined offer the perspectives of a recovered anorectic, a person recovering from aspartame addiction, and the company which has property rights of nutra-sweet.
Take care,
honey

Thanks, honey. I have been using about a "tub" of Crystal Light per day. I drink this with 140 oz of water....most of which goes straight thru me. I am concerned, but its hard to decifer all of the info.
