View Full Version : keeping running shoes smelling good
My husband is a runner and his shoes have developed a terrible sweat smell-does anyone have any recommendations as what to do with running shoes? Any suggestions would be wonderful. Thankyou!

I have friends who swear by talcum powder, but your husband may not be crazy about this idea! I find that my running shoes stay surprisingly fresh and perhaps the reason is that I make sure they are never crammed too tightly in a gym bag. They must "breathe" (it's also good not to cram them in the bag so as to ensure that they keep their proper form). I also keep them in any bag for as little time as possible.
Hope this helps ...

try using those fabric sprays (febreeze etc)
They work great on sneakers

I echo Vanessa's idea of using Febreze. I haven't tried it on shoes, but I used it on socks once with great success. I had gone on a business trip and forgot an extra pair of socks, so I had to re-wear a pair. They were pretty stinky after being on my feet all day, but I sprayed them with Febreze, left them overnight, and the next morning the bad smell was completely gone.
I believe there now is an Extra Strength Febreze -- I'd probably try that for shoes! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif

My tried and true ways of keeping shoes smelling good is to make sure they air/dry out, before ya wear them again; wear a clean pair of socks each time you run-(not the ones you wore all day!); sprinkle baking soda in them & leave over-night; spray w/
Febreze; put Bounce dryer sheets in each shoe-I tear one sheet in half & put one in each shoe. All of these work great & I hope this helps! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif Zinnia
