i have a recipe that calls for wasabi paste. i was at the store, and they only had powder or sauce. i didn't know what to do, so i bought the wasabi sauce. i probably should have gotten the powder, but i didn't know which would be closer. do you just add water to the powder to make paste? i COULD take the sauce back and exchange it, but if i could make do with what i bought, that'd be great. here's the recipe i'm using it for:

Philadelphia Cheese Steaks with Onions and Wasabi Ketchup
Show: Quick Fix Meals with Robin Miller

Difficulty: Easy
Prep Time: 5 minutes
Cook Time: 10 minutes
Yield: 4 servings

12 ounces leftover flank steak slices
4 steak rolls, halved crosswise
1 onion, halved and thinly sliced
1 cup shredded Cheddar
1/4 teaspoon wasabi paste
4 tablespoons ketchup

Preheat oven to 400 degrees F.
Place steak slices inside halved rolls. Top with onions and cheese. Wrap cheese steaks in foil and bake 8 to 10 minutes, or until cheese melts.
Meanwhile, combine ketchup and wasabi paste. Mix until blended. Serve with cheese steaks.

If you have the sauce, go with it. Don't think it will make that much of a difference, we love wasabi in any form!!

I agree. I've never heard of wasabi sauce, but it won't make any difference. What surprises me is the amount: 1/4 teaspoon? Why bother? I think you'll want to taste and adjust to your own liking anyhow.

yeah, i was thinking that it wouldn't be very strong, and DF will probably add a ton of extra to his...he likes stuff REALLY spicy.

thanks for your advice, guys!

Interesting. It looks like a Japanese Shrimp Cocktail sauce. Instead of regular horseradish, it's using Wasabi. And then it's going onto an American Classic! Interesting idea. Since you are diluting the wasabi in the ketchup it shouldn't matter if you use paste or sauce for this application. I think it will be milder using the sauce, but you can always add more (as you have already indicated as BF likes it spicy anyway). :D
