okay, we are buying a vacation condo and I plan on moving my current bedding to the new place (great excuse to buy new for my house!) It's in a very quiet serene lake/mountain area that we will be using and also renting so I want it to have universal appeal. Anyway, I kind of want a cottagey sort of look--not kitschy though! The bedding is a black and off-white toile and the curtains are a very plain ball and fringe in off-white from Country Curtains. What color walls do you think would complement it? I don't want a really modern or bold color--just something that goes with a kind of restful look. The floors will more than likely be a light colored hardwood or laminate. I'm rather at a loss. Before anyone (and rightly so!) asks me what color the walls are where the bedding currently resides, the walls were two shades of off white and recently I repainted the walls to a color called smoked oyster, by benjamin moore---knowing that I would probably be changing bedding later. It doesn't look bad at all, but perhaps I'm missing some perfect color out there that will look fabulous. Any ideas?

Pale yellow? I remember a Trading Places episode where the bedding was black/white toile and the wall color a yellow shade - the designer was Laurie. A pale shade of blue might work too?

My first thought was a pale blue. With black and white fabrics I think some color on the walls would be nice. Have fun setting up your new place!

Well, I might as well add the other color: Soft Fern by Benjamin Moore. That's the color my bedroom will be in less than a week. I'm not sure how it would look with the toile, but it is extremely restful and (for a green) is almost a neutral.

We just painted ours Faded Silk - it's a Ralph Lauren color, but I had them color match it and make it with Behr paint at Home Depot, since I like Behr paint better (and it's cheaper!). It's a really pretty porcelain greenish blue, if that makes any sense!

I was going to suggest a pale sage green as well! I agree that some pale greens are neutral, as long as they are muted and not really an "apple" green as some light greens are.

they all sound good. I like the idea of a cheery yellow......pale blue sounds nice too. I'm also very partial to sage greens. It's nice to know that people think some color will work that isn't red for example!
Thanks!

My first thought was a yellow or gold. Laura Ashley Pale Gold 2 or Gold 3 might work.

I was also thinking a pale blue with a little green thrown in. I was at Restorations Hardware last year and they had a pale almost turquise on the wall with heavy wood furniture painted black with white bedding. It was really pretty.

My bedroom has black and white toile bedding and I used apple green on the walls and I love it. My trim is white and the whole room is very cheery without being too bright.

I would do either a sage-y green or a chocolate brown motif.

If anyone knows the name of the color they are thinking of, please let me know. I'd love to see them.

Looking briefly, I went to Sherwin-Williams website and found color 6485 called Raindrop. It's about what I was thinking.

I like Himalayan Mist from Behr. You can see it on their website.

We recently painted our bedroom Wythe Blue by Benjamin Moore. It is a very soothing blue with quite a bit of green in it. You can check it out on the personal color viewer on www.benjaminmoore.com (color # is HC-143)
