OK everyone..... What happened to our weekly check-ins? <insert light hearted chuckle here> How did everyone do last week? Do we want to keep this thread going?

Hi Kelly,
Yes, I for one would like to continue with weekly check-ins. Glad you started a thread for this week. How was your week, anyway?

Mine was more of the same: running still not up to par, but I'm getting back there...I just have to keep being patient! Over the past many weeks I actually have been quite patient, which is somewhat unlike me http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/wink.gif , and I'm glad for it.
It's high conference and meeting season now, which means lots of sitting around, lots of great-tasting and not necessarily healthful food, and lots of scrambling to get everything else done whenever you're not at something or other! It means I'm often less active during the day than I would normally be, but I'm not complaining. Things are basically great - knock on wood! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/biggrin.gif
Have a great week, everyone. Looking forward to hearing how last week was.

Thanks Kelly for starting this week's thread. I was going to do it yesterday but by the time I got my message written something happened to my computer. I had a good week last week. Walked 27 miles, lifted three times, made a bunch of yummy CL recipes and lost weight. After 9 full months I am now only 1.8 lbs. for my WW goal. I am holding out real hope for this week's weigh in. Hope everyone else had a good week too! Next Monday's a holiday for me so I probably won't be able to report until Tuesday, but I do want to keep the weekly reporting going. Thanks!

I definately want to still check in! I did great with my workouts, though I still wish I had eaten less last week. I don't know if I lost any pounds, because I only measure inches once a month. I'm not sure if I will make my weight goal by January, but I'm not ready to give up yet.
I hope everyone else did well! Good luck for this week! ( I feel like I've gotten off to a pretty good start so far! It is only Tuesday though http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif !

How did you do Kelly?

I suppose I was avoiding this since it's "that time of the month" when no matter how good you've been you just feel fat!

Anyway, last week was pretty good. Not at optimum still, but an improvement over the last two weeks and heading in the right direction.

Glad to hear all the positive results so far! This week I WILL make it to the gym at least 3 times!!!!

No you're not! I have not been doing so hot with my goals, but each week I just tell myself that I'll do better this time. And each time I do a LITTLE better which means I'm heading in the right direction and that at least I'm probably not gaining which is also a plus! Keep trying and think POSITIVE!!

Oh, yeah, and did I forget to mention that it's also high fundraising season?! Chocolate everywhere you look, and of course I end up buying some to help out...even if I give away half or most of it, it's still a lot of chocolate! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/tongue.gif

By the way, Laura, you're doing great. Don't beat yourself up over a week or two (hey, I've had about 9 off-track training weeks in a row now, for a couple of reasons, and I'm still far from losing hope!!) http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/wink.gif You've got the right attitude about fixing realistic goals for this week, and then you'll be back on track. Look forward to hearing how you did next week! Take care.

I'm re-energized for my health regimen (and have subsequently already changed some of my goals)... Have been fastidiously counting calories and fat this week and it has been really eye-opening and DOES help me think about what I eat before I put it in my mouth. Also helps me feel more in control of what is going on with my body. Am trying to work out five times a week (had only been getting four in) for at least 40 minutes of high intensity (where I look like a tomato in the face and my sweat pours off me in buckets). So far I have three session in--only two to go. Tomorrow, though, I have a visitor coming for a week, so that will make things tougher, but I am determined to stick to my plan.

Thanks so much for this forum... it really helps to think about checking in each week (even though I miss some).

Thanks for the encouragement everyone. This board is great - not only do I see that everyone else is accomplishing goals, but I get encouragement as well. I plan on getting a good night's rest tonight so I can run in the morning. I'll keep you posted.

I've maintained a steady decline of 1 - 2 lb per week, according to the weight watcher scales. Almost 8 lb so far. I can't believe the difference in how clothes fit! That is my real motivator and measure of success. I didn't try many new foods in the last week, but will get back on track once I'm home more.
Congratulations to the rest with your successes!

Hi everyone! Well this weekend was pretty good for me. I walked more than usual and tried not to eat anything too bad. This week has been a bit more difficult to get out and walk but I'm to tommorrow. I am also dreading the winter season because I do all of my excercise outside and I don't have any place to exercise inside! AHHH! Any suggestions?
My real problem is at night I can do good during the whole day then after dinner around eight it's munch time and it seems as if I can't break myself of this habit! Well hoping to get up and walk tommorrow.
Great job everyone, keep up the good work!

Okay. I am a total failure, last week started out great and then I allowed myself to get off track. I will make realistic goals this week and keep them. Lift 3x, run 3x (3 miles). I must admit that reading how well the rest of you are doing is really good for me and my lazy, and now somewhat softer butt!

Good Morning everyone!

Natasha - hang in there! Buy the chocolate from the fundraisers, but give it away immediately! Bring it in to work, give it to a neighbor - I've even been known to drop it in the food pantry barrels at the grocery store.

iqueen - Congratulations! 1.8 lbs to go? You must be psyched! Please let us know when you hit your weight - we'll have a virtual party for you.

Missi - I admire your restraint to measure only one a month; I need the frequent encourage to keep going right now.

lindrusso - hang in there! Get to the gym even if it's for a light workout - & remember next week is a new week!

Laura - You are not a total failure!!! Make the realistic goals so you can keep them. Maybe you can add 1/2 mile on next weeks goals? I personally cannot run even 3 miles so 3.5 seems unmanageable to me!

mighth - Can you take your visitor on a walk with you? It may not be the high intensity workout you are looking for, but it is better than skipping it all together. I make my mother walk with me whenever she visits - it's not my aerobic class, but I don't feel as badly about missing a class if I walk.

jd - Congratulations on the 1-2 lbs per week. That's the goal I'm shooting for also. I love the "loose 5 lbs in one week" promises, but I have finally figured out that it just doesn't work that way.

andreajackson - I also can very easily fall into the after 8 munchie routine. I have been able to avoid it lately by brushing my teeth right after dinner - something about eating with freshly brushed teeth that I just cannot do. Also, I tell myself that I can eat whatever I want before 7:00, but nothing afterwards. Usually 7:00 creeps up so quickly that I haven't had a chance to eat anything really bad so I'm ok. My other reliable standby is a quart bottle of water that I keep next to me while I'm reading the paper after the kids are in bed. I jsut keep drinking that and get too lazy to get up off the couch & get food! Ah, the tricks we play on ourselves!

I’m so glad to hear that everyone wants to keep this going – I need the motivation and weekly check-ins! I myself have been sick for most of the last 2 weeks so my workouts as well as my healthy eating have been suffering. I did manage to loose another 1.5 lbs last week. Not sure how much of that was just not eating and how much was real weight loss. I’m feeling better this morning and hoping to get back to the gym today to make up for the past few days. It will be an easy workout though since I really, really want to get rid of this blasted cold. Have a great week everyone!

Hi Andrea! Glad to know you had a good weekend. For suggestions on winter exercising, check out the thread on Elliptical Trainers (about one page back) and on indoor 2nd floor exercising (this is several pages back and you will have to request that all topics in the past 60 or 75 days be shown or it won t come up). Both are on the Healthy Living page. Sorry for not creating the links to make things easier...I am having technical difficulties!

It sounds like we are having our good times and struggles - it's always such a cycle, isn't it? If we're not ruled by the moon, or the dread monthlies, it's something else - emergencies, colds, etc. The important thing is to remember its for the long haul, keep your eyes on the big picture. Everyone, just keep doing the best you can!

I had to slack off my gym regimen the last week because I was just exhausted from my RA. I would have given up and sent out for pizza a few years ago. Instead I took a little walk here or there and really tried to keep true to my journal and food choices. Sunday and Monday I ate a little too much tho!

Hope I have more exciting news to report next week. Kelly, I think we were all kind of waiting on you to start the weekly thread. I guess any of us can get it off to a start? Well all of you hang in there, and so will I! Have a great week.

Well, I've had two hard weeks. Went out of town on Wednesday and returned Tuesday, with a cold. So, the bad food choices while vacationing can sit on my hips a bit longer while I recover from this cold. But.....I resolve to hit the gym just as soon as I can. Maybe next week, maybe sooner depending how I feel. Back home I can at least make healthy food choices without being tempted by restaurant foods at every meal.

Hi Andrea-

I know what you mean about exercising outside. Having lived through 3 winters in Jackson Hole, Wyoming I know it can be difficult. This past winter I simply decided to buy the right clothes and brave the winter. For me, it was very invigorating. I had a rule that I wouldn't exercise (except skiing) if was below 20 degree. ((I wouldn't ski if it was below 15) I don't know where you live but there are some great clothing items that really allow you to move but keep you warm. I usually didn't wear anything but running tights and fleece pants on the bottom and then two long sleeve shirts and a shell that has a fleece lining. Gloves, a headband and I was set. To me, being out in the snow is so peaceful. All the sounds are muffled. I now live in Colorado Springs and expect my winter workouts will be much easier. I didn't do all my exercising outside, but I would try to get out at least once a week.

My "goal" was just to take the stairs at work. I am happy to say that I am huffing and puffing up the 6 floors at least 5-6 times each day. I think feel accountable since I posted that as my goal. I set a new goal for myself this week, and boy have I done a sorry job. I have tried to give up my daily soft drink. I have indulged in one every day!!! So, you are all witnesses to my new soft-drink free lifestyle!

Hello everyon,
I just posted in the "introduce yourselves"
section. New here and will need a lot of pushing and encouragement! Need to lose around 80 pounds, and am getting ready to start Weight Watchers. I need the structure thing, and that is the best place I know..Getting on the scales in front of someone really makes a person think about putting that "no no" in your mouth!
I'll try to be a regular here and give you my results of the week. I'm not big on exercising, but plan on making walking my choice. I live in Florida, so I'll either have to get out early, or do it in the evening. Which ever, I HAVE TO DO IT!!!!
I tried the low carb thing, but it only raised my triglycerides to 438! I should have known that "FADS ARE BAD", but wanted to do what everyone else was being so successful at. Now I'm back to the "common sense" way of eating, and just hope that my
determination holds out! Just knowing that all of you are here for the support that I need will help me start moving toward my goal.
