Cell phone service through Amazon?

Has anyone ordered service and phones through Amazon? The price for the phone I have my eyes on is significantley less expensive through Amazon than if purchased directly through the carrier. I am tempted to go through Amazon, but wonder about after purchase service, which I assume is through the provider, but wanted to see if any of you have any experience before I hit the purchase button.

I have not ordered service from anyone except my carrier, but a few months ago, I did order new phones for both DH and I from an 3rd party internet seller (not Amazon), because we could get different phones (free after rebates) than from my carrier - at the time anyway, the deals seem to change weekly. No significant problem, except one of the rebate deadlines was before my phone was even activated; it turned out not to be a problem, but I had to be on hold to India for a while to discuss it with someone. Not too much of a big deal.

You can always call your local cell store and see if they will match the Amazon price.

I've ordered phones from amazon before without any problems. They do always have really good deals!
