I was the sort of person who never had to watch her weight, until the end of college and the beginning of real-life stress. I gained about 25 pounds and only recently started to lose it (7 years later). I have lost about 7 and am on a good exercise and diet plan, but I tend to get on these depression jags where I obsess about the weight I gained and the way I looked at my wedding or some other event. Does this happen to other people? What do you do?

I am at 1600-1800 calories per day. I do cardio four times a week (I was always doing that) and added two sessions of weight training and one to two yoga classes. Off the subject--I highly recommend yoga.

You're definitely not alone!! I too didn't have to watch my weight a whole lot until a few years after college. Right now, I'm trying to focus on exercising and eating right for HEALTH reasons. The weight will always be an issue, but I want to change my lifestyle, not just go on a diet until I get the weight off. In this way, I hope to make healthy living a part of my life, not just a means to and end.
You may want to read back through some of the earlier posts here - especially the posts titled HLSG which stands for Healthy Living Support Group. You will quickly see that your story is not unusual!
HLSG is a group we've started and we "meet" at least once a week to discuss how we are doing on our fitness goals. Please join us if you wish to!
Oh and by the way, from what you've written here about your eating/exercise habits, it sounds like you're on the right track!

ooh. Jessica. Your timing couldn't have been more perfect. I'm in that slump RIGHT NOW. I kinda had a wave of it around Halloween, but got better. Now I'm hitting it big time. I mean I'm pretty small, but I cna't get away with it much any more. And when I'm stressed, I don't care how I look...I'm gonna think of it as not good or not like I used to be. I'm sure the majority of it has to do with the fact that work is extremely hectic right now (in fact, I'm at work right now, and I don't have time to be on the bulletin boards at all!)I like to be in the healthy living club, but lately I've avoided it like the plague. It's like the last thing I want to hear is "I think I did okay this week. I ran four miles a day and ate only healthy food, and went to yoga and weight training every other day." Especially when all I did was sit on my you-know-what at work for an extra long day and then go home and do nothing but eat and sit, because I was too tired to do anything else!
