I got my hair cut today and my stylist suggested we do a perm!!
Is this something that's coming back?
This is not a rinky dink salon, it's an AVEDA day spa, and she has cut my hair for years so I doubt she would steer me wrong, but I still wonder????
She suggested using large rollers. Apparently perm rollers come much larger than they ever did, (she made about a 1 1/2" circle with her fingers) so you can do nice soft wavy curls. I'm inclined to trust her, (she did a gorgeous job on some subtle highlights last year) but a PERM?? HELP!

Yeah! Since mine is naturally curly I'm very glad to hear that! I got very tired of straightening it with the flat iron. The way it's cut now I don't have to do anything to it!

Wow I remember getting spiral perms in the 80's early 90's!

I had long thick blonde hair in perfect spiral curls.

It looked awesome even though it took the poor girl an hour and a half to wrap!

My friend actually got something called a flash a perm about a month ago and loves it. It looks nice.

Flash a perm? What is it? I have never heard of them.

You are sooooooooo lucky! My hair is totally straight. After two failed perms, they sent a sample of my hair off to an analysis lab and apparently my hair shafts are "perfectly round" which means they resist curling. What I would do for naturally curly hair.... :)

Wow, this is the first I've heard of perms coming back! I had soft perms throughout most of the 1980s; they were actually very nice for their time, but I so I associate them with that era!

My first perm was a total freak-out 'do that I got when I was around 14. I went by myself to the salon in the strip mall, but clearly didn't express my wishes properly: I was thinking Jaclyn Smith, but what I got was...who's the woman from marketing in the Dilbert cartoons? It was shaped like a Christmas tree, only worse, because...she didn't perm the crown. So it was TOTALLY straight to the top of my ears, then...marketing chick from Dilbert!! When I'd start to leave a room, my brother or sister would ask, "Think your hair'll fit through that door?"

Oh, that was just awful of them!! .... but still made me laugh! ;)
I hadn't heard that perms were coming back either. NOT that I'm up on current fasion trends! But I also was permed quite often in the 80's and early 90's and I think I liked it. Well, I liked it relaxed and the body it gave my fine thin hair. I'll have to pay attention to what the new perms have to offer if I grow my hair longer again.
Peggy - I always admire the perfect and straight thick hair. I love the smoothness of it. It seems so tame and without stick-up whisps; I'd be reaching to "pet" your hair! :) :p
