Happy Monday All!
OK - it's another week - another week past Halloween, closer to Thanksgiving, the Thanksgiving pumpkin pie, my sister's famous holiday cheesecake, and all those cookies I bake every year around this time. Keeping with that thought - how did we all do with our goals last week?
I did ok at the gym - got all 4 workouts in. I guess I didn't do so well eating though - somehow I managed to gain another 1/2 pound last week! I feel pretty cruddy this morning. I can't quite figure out what's going on. I have a huge suspicion that I'm unconsciously eating my all the Halloween candy we still have laying around.....
I need those inspirational words from you all. I am still very far away from my goal of losing those 20 pounds.

Okay, this is my second attempt at posting - actually my THIRD! ARGH - is anyone else having trouble with the board being sssslllllooooowwwww???
Kelly - keep trying! You got to the gym 4 times and that's great! Just don't get frustrated and stop doing what you're already doing! It will get better....
Also, have you ever counted calories? When I do, I'm almost always surprised at how many calories I'm taking in. I find it a pain to count every day, but it's a real wake up call when you do - it's funny how you "forget" about that cookie earlier or that extra serving of such and such. In fact, I'm due for another reality check!! Just some food for thought, so to speak.
As for me, I did pretty well - maybe even lost a pound. I made it to the gym 4 times and got to one aerobics class one of those days. Eating could be better, as always, but even though I'm eating some fattening foods, I'm not totally bingeing. Could I some day actually eat the foods I love in moderation????? Again, I think I'm better off if I don't try to deprive myself so much. I love food and there's not much that's going to change that!
So, I plan to make it to the gym 4 times this week again, but also to watch the eating more. Oh and 1 aerobics class again. Today I'm without a car, so it's a bit of a drag to start the week without my trip to the gym. Maybe I'll have to haul out that exercise tape.....
Good luck everyone!! Don't give up now that the holidays are approaching and our lives get busier!!! We CAN do it. Oh - weigh-ins start this week at the Y - I'm so glad they are doing this - I think it will help me get through the holidays without backsliding!
See new thread begging for help. Just can't get on track. It seems that I can watch what I eat, exercise and don't lose an ounce. Or just be moderate and don't lose an ounce! Yuck. But...holidays and their parties and treats are coming. I shall try again. And again. And again. Until I get it right. Maybe actually go to the gym and their classes.
Luckily I'm only a little heavier than I'd like to be. Mostly, it's cholesterol for me. Genetics have my count a little high and my dad died young. Doctor said watch the diet and exercise 30 minutes a day 5 times a week. Now just to do it! Any motivaation tricks in other thread would be appreciated.

Hello!
Last week was a good one for me for excercising. I have recently added weight machines at the local gym in addition to my running. Right now I am going 2x a week and running 2-3x (it has been raining a lot here!).
Eating is always my weakness. Perhaps I shouldn't bring this up, but I am because I am trying to share. The week before my period is always hard. I am so hungry. This is more than craving salty foods or chocolate. Self control is never easy for me, but it was totally out the window last week. It happens pretty much every month, so worse than others. I do gain a pound or two, but nothing more than what is typical for that time of the month with water retension and stuff. I lose it right after my period. I do have some problems that I have felt affect my hormonal cycle, but I was wonder does anyone else go through this? It there some reason my body would need more calories during this time? Maybe my iron is just low. I don't know.
I get my motivation from how good I feel if I eat right and excercise. Also, from how bad I feel when I don't. I have been feeling bad the past week, so I am confident I can get back on track.
Have a good week everyone!

Hello everyone. This is great..I am fairly new to the boards...do you do this every week?
I am on weight watchers and just reached the 10% difference...my first goal. I now only have 12 lbs more to go. I probably will concentrate on staying at 132 until Jan 1. I had bronchitis so havent exercised for 2 weeks, but think I can start back tomorrwo with a lighter workout! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif

Kerri - I'm with you on the pre-menstrual thing. I usually feel like a complete pig! Of course I have absolutely no will power sometimes anyway, so that doesn't help. I've been watching my goal of losing 20 pounds by end of January disintegrate...lost five, gained it back http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/frown.gif I'll just keep trying http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif
Hey Kelly!
Thanks for getting us started this week! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif Getting to the gym 4 times is super! Try not to worry about that 1/2 lb. I had gained a total of 4 lbs. two weeks ago. I think alot of that was fluid since I'd eaten lots of salty stuff over Halloween and I've now lost it.
I think as the holiday goodies approach I have to work on moderation. I simply can't go without some of those goodies but maybe if I don't OD it will not be so hard to recover. I have to believe that as long as we keep those workouts consistent we'll ALL reach our goals!
Kelly, I still have ten lbs. to go to reach my pre-pregers weight and then another 5 lbs. to get where I want to be. However, I've lost 15 lbs. since we started our group. Guess we have to look at how far we've come too!
I'll say it again -this group is incredibly motivating!!!! I think of you all as I drag myself to the gym and realize you all are probably there as well... http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/biggrin.gif
Thanks Lindrusso for getting us started!!!!

Kerri- I had the exact same problem of eating before my period... it usually only lasted 2-3 days, but I felt like I could literally eat everything in sight during that time. I had a hysterectomy 4 years ago, and a year later finally managed to start really losing weight (and lost 60 lbs.) I don't believe they are connected in anyway, but, I still do go through a couple days here and there when I want to eat constantly. I still have my ovaries, so I can only assume it is totally hormonal.
As far as my week of meeting my goals... I am starting to get a little discouraged. I began running 3 weeks ago, 4 times a week and haven't missed a run yet. But, I also have not lost an ounce. http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/frown.gif I plan to keep up the running to meet my goals for races, but really had hoped to see a little weight loss as well. I have been watching what I eat, but perhaps I need to focus more energy there.

Funny you should mention PMS! Ouch!
Well, I'm out of my self-lothing state, and back-on track. I'm at the gym M T W TH and Sun this week, to get myself jumpstarted. I have pilates tomorrow. I can't wait!
Alright- this is it no more excuses for me! The last two weeks have been bad for exercise- between the rain and moving into our first house I have not exercised! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/frown.gif That is all changing as of today!
We know have a backyard for our darling puppies to run around in (they love the doggie door!) so that they are not locked up for 10 hours a day. The rain has backed off to approx. 2 days a week. No more excuses- it is time to start being consistent!!!

This must be a bad PMS week for this group. I have been counting calories for a couple weeks, but that went out the window with one dip into the Edy's Light Rocky Road. The exercising is going really well for me this week, and as of today I am back on the calorie track. I hate it but it works http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif

Hello Kelly,
It's my first time to post a message here. Like all of you, I am very much conscious with health and fitness. I started doing workouts and monitoring my diet last June, and the results are quite satisfying. Well, I think we should think "long-term" when we are trying to lose weight. I can still remember the first time I tried to lose weight - I lose 20 pounds in less than 2 months, and I gained almost all the weight after 1 1/2 years. Losing weight and gaining them back happens to a lot of people, so losing weight, then maintaining it requires lots of patience and commitment. As others say, it's changing your lifestyle.
What I do is lift weights and aerobics alternately. I think you visiting the gym 4x a week is a good start. If you've just gained 1/2 pounds, don't panic! It may just be water retention. Surrounding yourself with fit people can also be an inspiration and motivation. Also, make small goals, instead of big goals, because it is faster to reach small goals, and when you achieve small goals, it inspires and motivates you to do more.
Well, good luck to you, I think you're on your way to a healthier and fitter life.
Argyle

I feel a little guilty, since I don't often post on this thread, but I just wanted to "check in" so to speak.
I'm up to 105 now (I'm also only 5' 2 1/2" --the 1/2 is VERY important http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/wink.gif and have a small frame ); I must say, I was not happy at all about this weight gain at first. I gained about 3 pounds during the last 3 weeks before my marathon, expecting them to easily come off after it was over. Not so. But in the last week, I've really come to realize that I feel healthier, stronger and sexier http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/tongue.gif at this weight than 5 or 10 pounds ago. My mom always said that 105 was a great weight for me and now I finally believe her.
So anyway, this is a great accomplishment for me; just wanted to share! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif
I also wanted to say that I think Argyle gave some awesome advice in her last post, especially her ideas about goal-setting bit by bit and keeping everything in perspective.
Tomorrow's the start of another week, so if this week got you down, it's a clean slate tomorrow! Have a great Sunday, all! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif

Hi Everyone,
This was a "get back on track" week for me. I was studying for a mid-term (which was grueling) and only got two workouts in - and didn't eat great but still kept in touch with my Points. I'm glad to say I only gained 1 lb. while seated in front of a law book. But I had kick-butt aerobics and weight training sessions Sat. and Sun., the midterm's done and I'm ready for a few good weeks before my paper and final cripple me again!
Kelly, you hang in there! You can do it. You're working out more than me, you're an inspiration to us all. Kwormann - CONGRATULATIONS on reaching your 10% !!! Good for you! I'm a receptionist at Weight Watchers after reaching my LifeTime, and I know how important that is. Kerri, you are not alone with PMS cravings and weight gain. And everyone else - in my work weighing people in at WW, I am seeing in the last few weeks that people who were steadily losing are going up a little - I also see almost every woman, every month, has the dreaded bloat/cravings. I've been trying really hard to keep everyone encouraged. The seasonal changes in cold climates just make some people gain weight! Hang in there everyone, there are some trying times ahead. But most of all - Happy Thanksgiving :-)
