Our living room is pretty much done- finally, after about 6 months- but now we're stuck with trying to find curtains! I've never been good at decorating so I'm faced with WAY too many options. DH and I are in agreement that we don't want formal, heavy drapes. We're leaning toward some kind of sheers at least.

Our walls are a pale yellow (Benjamin Moore Weston Flax) with light gold accents (B. Moore Westminster Gold) as well as a PURPLE accent wall under the stars (B. Moore Purple Lotus). The couch is a sage-like microfiber fabric with purple and striped pillows. The striped fabric is the same fabric I used to make curtains on the bookcases. We'd like to add some color to the windows as well but aren't sure what "look" to go for. The 2 front windows are about 25" wide (deep set, so we could do a tension rod inside) and about 50" long, almost 3' from the floor. There is also a back door to the deck that is about the size of a standard sliding glass door.

I'll try to post pictures:

This shows the couch pretty well, though the purple pillows look blue.

This shows the three different wall colors. Still, the purple is looking kind of blue! http://www.imagestation.com/picture/sraid212/pe2216c25f13739c24031cf2a3b5e6d21/ed5adf07.jpg

Bookcases- fabric contains purple, sage, reddish/rust on a tan/gold background. http://www.imagestation.com/picture/sraid212/pd763175cfe2a63bc2473db77de9e6998/ed5ae163.jpg

Here were some sheers I saw: Domestications (http://www.domestications.com/ProductS.asp?MSCSProfile=Ticket%3DC9A354E3-26EA-45DD-829C-3E614CAF441E%2538961.947025463%200%3B&product=G10291x&dept%5Fid=) I liked their color selection! We have purple sheers next door in the dining room so not sure if we want the same thing in the living room. Thinking maybe two colors... We have some really nice wrought iron curtain rods we'd like to use.

So... any inspiration for me? I'm so challenged when it comes to putting stuff like this together! This is our first real venture into color as well. Thanks in advance for any suggestions!!!

I'm awful at this too, thank goodness our current home came with all the window coverings and they go with our furniture! And our last home was a loft on a high enough floor that we needed no curtains. :p

What about contacting a drapery store that offers in home consultations? Even if you don't buy from them you may get some great ideas.

The light in your room is fabulous.....I would really consider some nice pieces of artwork on the walls and leaving the windows untreated.....unless you really need the privacy. I have a center hall type home, living room to right, dining room to left, windows on front and sides of each room. We put white wooden slatted shades on the sides only and have left the front windows bare. Your doors/windows to the deck have beautiful millwork and if your front windows are equally esthestic I might just let them stand. But I am really a person who needs light....

I have a great friend who is a designer and they are worth every penny spent.

Good luck.
