I am reading Body for Life now and loving it. Can't wait to implement the program and I am wondering if anyone else has read this book and what your results were. There is nothing weird about the plan in this book. The diet is balanced and activity manageable.
Every since I hit 31 everything is sagging southbound and I MUST fix this before it is too late! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/biggrin.gif)

christinew,
I just read this book too, but I haven't actually done the "Program" yet, because I've had similar questions to yours -- does it really work? A friend of mine swears by it, so she lent me the book. I thought it made sense, but I don't have access to the aerobic equipment first thing in the morning. We're planning to set up a home-gym with any money I get for Christmas, so I'm thinking maybe I'll be able to start this program in the New Year.
But I too would really like to hear if anyone else has tried this program and made it work.

Becky,
I have the same dilemma. I am wondering if I need to purchase a stationary bike? Dumbells and a bench?? I want to get pregnant in Mar-April and I am hoping this will get me a little stronger feeling. I am 5'8" and 145 and want to be down 10 lbs but mostly feel better. I also have a flexiball that I use for abs/thighs/butt. It is wonderful.
Let me know if you come up with a plan. I need encouragement!
Cheers,
Christine

Christine,
My plan for now is just to continue going to the gym when I can (about 4 days a week) and trying to encorporate some of the ideas from the Body for Life book. For example, I'm trying to do more of an "interval" workout when I do my aerobic exercise. I used to always just go and do a fairly constant intensity level, but now I'm trying to do something where I start out slow and ramp up in intensity, then go back down and ramp up again, and so on. I'm also trying to work to higher intensity levels on the weight training. And when I can, I'm trying to work out first thing in the morning, but so far that has been just on weekends when I go running, because I don't have access to equipment early enough in the morning to do it on the weekdays.
I'm also going to try to eat snacks that encorporate protein along with the carbohydrates, because I think I'm usually one of those people who overdoses on carbohydrates. That has been rather difficult with the holiday season, but I'm just going to try to do as well as I can for now and maybe get more serious about it in January.
It's interesting that you're 31 (or maybe re-reading your comments that simply means you're over 31?) and wanting to get pregnant in March-April. I am also 31, and my husband and I are discussing "allowing the possibility" of pregnancy this spring. I'm also about 10 lbs heavier than I'd like to be, and I want to be more fit before becoming pregnant. From what I've heard, the more fit a woman is before and during pregnancy, typically the better the pregnancy goes. I personally want to do everything I can to give my child the best chance to be healthy, so I'm determined to be more serious about my own health.
Incidentally, have you been reading the posts about the pregnant Susans? Those are inspiring to me, hearing about the experiences of women who are pregnant for the first time, AND the encouragement from women who have been through it before. Those messages are increasing my "baby fever", but they're also making me thing more seriously about what all is involved with being pregnant.
I guess the encouragement I can give you is that I'm in about the same boat, and I know we both can do it! I'm willing to keep in touch, because I can definitely use encouragement too. I'll let you know if I end up getting some dumbbells and maybe an exercise bike or something (probably after Christmas) and get serious about "Body for Life". Good luck!

Becky,
You and I sound very similar in our plan etc. I am 33(34 in April)and really ready to start trying but I am taking one more pill pack(Estrostep) and then I will give my body 1-2 months before trying. So in about 3 months we will try to conceive! I hope you and I can keep in touch and yes I have been reading about the Susan's and Mrs. Reber progress too. I can't wait to see how distored my body will become!!! I am sure my hips will get even wider and I hope for bigger bossoms also. http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif
You are definately right about incorporating into your workout some interval training. I can not follow the book exactly but will take some good points from it. I am thinking of joining a gym.
Good to hear from you and my email is:

Hope your Thanksgiving was great.
