I just visited a sports physio the other day and it was a very positive experience! Our coach had brought her in for a seminar earlier in the year, and many of my running buddies go to her. I decided to go see her to have my strengths and weaknesses confirmed, and to get some customized tips and strengthening exercises.
We spent over an hour chatting about everything related to movement and strength, and she checked my flexibility and strength in many, many different ways. She also analyzed my running style and physical strengths and weaknesses, told me that I was doing a lot right (thank goodness!), and recommended some additional key exercises. I m going to go back to her periodically and also start some massage therapy.
Just wanted to pass this along in case anyone else might be interested in the idea of seeing a sports physio. You don t need to have a specific injury to get something out of it. Recommended!

Natasha,
Just curious...you said "our coach,"...are you on a running team? That's really neat --I'd like to have someone evaluate me like that; it's pretty difficult to be objective when you're analyzing your own habits. Do you have any idea about how to go about finding someone to go see among all of the doctors out there?

Hi Em,
I m not on any kind of team now, unless you count Team in Training, which is obviously quite different http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif and, in fact, I don t even have a coach at the moment (though I plan to change that soon). The guy who introduced us to the physio was my coach back in the winter and spring - he coached a group of us for a half marathon.
As far as finding a good person to see, maybe you could ask your running friends or the people you know at the local running store? I bet they would have some recommendations. Good luck and please let us know if you do decide to go! Hope you had a great Thanksgiving, half marathon incident aside.
