I am creating a simple website for myself using FrontPage. I would like to include a photo slideshow where the photos fade from one to the next. I have seen this affect in other websites using an swf flash movie file.

Can I create a fading slide show in FrontPage (2003 ed)?
I've created one in Photoshop Elements, but can only save it as wma file which doesn't seem to work in FrontPage - although perhaps I can insert the wma file on the page using a different tag/command.
Is there an inexpensive program I can use to create a flash file - other than the $650. version of Macromedia Flash?
BTW - I have already read through the manuals for both FP and PE, but can't seem to find the precise answers I am looking for!

Thank you for your help!!!!

If FP allows you to do such a thing, it would depend on webbots, which means you'd have to be on an IIS server with FP extensions enabled, which very very few public servers do.

If pictures have 256 colors or less, OR the quality of the pictures is not important, you could make an animated gif. If you have a recent version of PS which includes ImageMaker, you can use that to create the animation.

If you want to make a Flash file with cheapware, go to www.download.com, they have several.

If you want to create a file that people view after clicking a link (as opposed to a picture embedded in a page), you could use PowerPoint and create a .pps file. Of course, the user would have to have PPT or PPT Viewer to view.

Why not just run a JavaScript to fade the pictures in and out like a slideshow.

i'm pretty sure photoshop will let you create a web gallery with a folder of images, and you can have it do a slideshow. i did it once, and remember it being easy, but i don't remember the specifics. DF knows about it though, so if you'd like to look into it and need more info, i can ask him for you.

Thank you so much for the help!!!

I've bookmarked a site containing a java powered slideshow to learn about later.

I also went to download.com and downloaded a trial version of swfnslide. In less than 5 minutes I was able to generate a short test slide show - complete with fade - insert it into my FrontPage project and preview it. It works! Yippee!!!! Now I'll go back and purchase the full version for the grand sum of $34! It is a simple program, perfect for my needs, and exactly what I was looking for.

That site download.com looks really interesting too!

Thanks!
