TOday was the first day of running using the New Runners schedule (I actually started on week 2 since I have been a walker and have jogged occasionally).

I am very sore!!!!

Good for you! Don't worry about the soreness; you get that from doing any new activity...the first time I took a spinning class, my butt hurt for nearly a week!
So how did it go?

I felt really good when I finished.
I did it at the gym on the treadmill so I could track my minutes, but I usually like to be outside...I get bored To top it off, my arm radio went out, so I thought I would go crazy. My sweet hubby gave me an early xmas present, a new radio for tomorrow!

I am ready to go again tomorrow!...I have been HUNGRY today!

Kim,
Good work! Glad you're having fun with this running thing.

In Weight Watchers, members are encouraged to eat a little more on the days they exercise heavily, while still eating in moderation. I would say the same to you. Don't blow all of your good work, but if you are hungry, EAT.

Good girl!!! I m glad it went well. And yes, you definitely get to eat more when you run, as long as it s in moderation, as Susie said.

Has the soreness gone away?

Be warned - you re on your way to becoming a running addict... http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/wink.gif

I have to admit that on many days running is more of a chore than a joy (yesterday definately was an exception!)but I do feel GREAT when I am done. Often times that is what keeps me going. I off for a short run today (3-4 miles). Hope everyone has a great day!

Hey Kim,

How was Day 3?

Going out for a run on a cool, crisp, clear day! Wish me luck http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/tongue.gif

Day three was awful! I had trouble with the breathing. I dont know if I am off my high,or if it is because I was outside where it was chilly (even in Houston....)

Day 4 is tomorrow, then Saturday I start week 2...

Thanx for asking!

Kim, what kind of a problem with your breathing did you have?
When I first started running, I took a suggestion from Runner's World to match my breathing with my strides by counting with each inhale and exhale. For example, depending on your pace, you might inhale for 3 strides/counts, and exhale for 4. Or if you prefer, 3 and 3. Or, if you're working really hard, 2 and 1. Or even 5 and 4 if you're feeling comfortable . Just play around with it and see what's works for you.

Now it's second nature to me, but concentrating on your breathing really gives you a rythym and makes your stride seem smoother. Give it a shot, and don't give up...you'll get the hang of it. I'm proud of you for sticking with it! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif Show that treadmill (or the road) who's boss!

I appreciate the support from everyone...the kind words emilycat.

I was very discouraged after yesterday..the more I think about it, I think it was the chill in the air. Anyway, you talked me into going back tomorrow http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif

Kim, Another idea to try if you are sore. The next time you run take your shower as usual, then end your shower with tepid water on your legs. 5 minutes each leg. It helps to take the lactic acid out of your legs. I do this after each marathon that I have run and I am able to run the next day. I read this from the great runner George Sheehan. It really works!
