View Full Version : Brad and Angelina-Are you kidding me??

So I was quickly scanning the real news headlines and the entertainment fluff headlines and I see this:
Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie will not marry until the rules governing who can marry whom are dropped.
Now really...no matter what your attitude is about gay marriage, do Brad and Angelina really think that making this announcement will somehow change the laws? Are lawmakers really running out saying, "OH NO, Brad and Angelina won't get married until we change the laws, we better hurry up and push those changes through. How will WE survive if don't change the laws immediately for them so that all may be married as the please."
How big their egos must be. I am surprised there is enough room in a house for the two of them to be together.

Ha ha ha ha!!! :D That's really funny. I like the humanitarian work that they're doing. But they do disgust me in some ways. No, I don't think they can change the entire world. Plus, it helps if you have a gazillion dollars and don't need a steady full time job. But really, enough of them already. I personally don't care if they get married or not. And really, it didn't bother her much when she married Billy Bob, now did it?

Well, there is a slightly more benign way to interpret this---both Brad and Angelina are well aware of their celebrity status and the media power that goes with it. It doesn't necessarily have to be a "we think we're so important that the legislature will just snap to." It could be more a solidarity thing: we think it's wrong that we have this option available to us but gay couples don't, so we're not going to avail ourselves of this option until everyone has access to it. And/or just a way to keep teh issue in the news--I guess I didn't really see it as an actual ultimatum they were issuing to Congress.
Or maybe they do think they're that spiffy. :)

It sounds more to me like a nice sounding excuse to not do something they weren't planning on doing anyway. People must ask them all the time when they're getting married. No one wants to hear "we don't want to get married" - so instead, they make themselves look righteous by saying it's because they are showing solidarity with those that can't get married. Gee, aren't they swell!! Win-win answer for them. I could be wrong, but that's how it comes across to me.

I think the only people who are going to have any real feelings about their decision are the divorce lawyers! :D

That's the way I would interpret it too. Not unlike celebs who make it known that they are vegan or of a certain political persuasion.

Hey, what about Goldie Hawn and what's his name? They've never married either.

Kurt Russell. Yet they've been together 25+ years, while her daughter, who did marry, is separated.
I think it was probably a sarcastic remark, but not being interpretted that way. I really don't care what they do.

I think there's another couple doing the same thing, but for the life of me I can't remember who it is. I thought the exact same thing you did, though, when I read about it.

That is exactly what I thought too when I read that.

Did Susan Sarandon and Tim Robbins ever get married? They have been together since Bull Durham, and I don't think they did.

I heard Brad Armpit say on Oprah that he didn't necessarily think marriage was for life. So he's better off just being common law with Angelina. Why go through a divorce that you know will happen?
