I enjoy very much being active, getting fresh air, etc. I bought a bike over the summer and love it; i also enjoy light hiking and swimming.
But I hate the gym! In Massachusetts, where the winters are dark and cold, it is a necessity. Anyone else feel this way?
Plus, with the busy holiday season, I have been lucky if I make it there 2 times per week. I've been making up for it by walking on my lunch hour (if it isn't raining or snowing, that is!)

I also hate the gym, but find id a necessity when it is chilly here in Houston (yes, it can get cold here) and especially in the summer heat.

However, I will always be outside to exercise if possible! I get so bored on the treadmill!

Me too. I'm in Massachusetts as well, and it is just so dark here. As a competitive swimmer, not only do I hate gyms, but I hate indoor pools. In the summer we train in a pond or in the ocean. It is so hard to make the switch to swimming indoors. I'd rather be in cold water then stuck in a stuffy pool or gym.

I used to hate gyms... but it was mainly because I am completely uncoordinated when it comes to aerobics, and never felt I knew what I was doing on the machines. Since I have been forced indoors for running this week, it has actually been a nice diversion. Since it is a HUGE university gym, there are plenty of visual distractions http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif If not for the gym, I could not be exercising, so I am grateful to be able to go. Running on the track is a heck of a lot better than my step-mom's treadmill too! Gina

Gyms are a necessity here in the North, and I don't really mind going. I belong to a Jewish Community Center with a fitness center; it is far from glamorous and not everyone is gorgeous and fit. We have all ages and shapes and fitness levels and it is inspiring to see 80-plus-year-old people lifting weights and walking the track.
