This should be interesting - bet you're all 30 - 40ish moms - well I, however, am not - just wondering if any of 'my kind' out there on HRT or wondering about it and weight gain, exercise, skin care you all do - IF YOU DO EXIST - I am a stay at home person - have 3 'almost' grown - youngest is 20 and 2 older - I really don't consider myself old - but just scanning over posts - you are all soooo young - your stories are so cute and reminiscant - love to just peruse through them BUT anyone wanting to chat on this subject please jump in! Hi Lanie;
I'm glad you posted this; I did the same on an exercise forum that I visit and got only one reply! I'll be interested to see what happens here.
I've been on HRT since I was 40 so it's rather a breeze for me and I rarely even think about it anymore.
I notice that you live in Canada..so do I.
I moved from the East to the West Coast about a year ago with my partner and opted outta the work force so I have lots of time to do the things that I love; cooking, hiking, working out, good wine. I find it a lot tougher to keep ahead of my fat cells as I get older so I was thrilled to discover CL and this board. I've gotten so many wonderful tips here; who says you can't teach an old dog new tricks:-).
Anyway, cheers (and a clink of the wine glass) to you.
Sandy.

Hi Girls! This should be interesting - ehehehe! I am 55 years whatever, and Iqueen - sure you fit in here of course! I too have been on HRT (the patch) for almost 11 years - sometimes when I forget to change them - they tell me here 'please get them quick and put them all over your face particularly around the mouth area'! Maybe we can use this as a 'hormonal'chat for the 'no kids' place......love to cook, love this CL site best of all - there was a cooking chat on 'the martha' but that stopped a bit ago - was fun - but only really cooking chat. I mall-walk (god that sounds old) but we have a ball, then from there once a week we go to the casino - have only won a couple of times but it's fun! What part of the East and West are you from and to Sandy? I am in Toronto now, have been since 1966 but originally come from Ottawa (yuk) I hate Ottawa, love it here. Where are you from Iqueen? I'm pretty sure you're 'real' name is not Iqueen - or would you just rather me call you that? doesn't matter a hill of beans!!!! And this old dog likes new tricks! Do you think this is an inappropriate topic on here? If not - or can suggest something/someplace else - let's get rolling.......... I am constantly checking here so will always see new postings....

Lanie:
I think this is a fine forum for this. I am in Atlanta, Georgia and although I haven't gotten to the point of HRT quite yet I have recently been diagnosed with hypothyroidism and am taking hormone replacement for that. It too has played havoc with my metabolism.
By the way, you can call me Queenie http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/wink.gif

Hi Girls;
I am originally from Ottawa, Ontario (small world isn't it?) but am now living near Canmore, Alberta (about 45 mins from Calgary to the East & 25 mins from Banff to the West). I love to go for long walks, but at this time of year it's too dangerous because of the bears readying themselves for hibernation. They react quite strongly to anything which threatens their eating (hey, I can relate to that:-). So my exercise is limited to indoor activities for now. I started a regular healthy eating/exercise routine last March (due to the fact that I had balloned since moving here...not working and managing to burn out the refrigerator light bulb every couple of months:-). I actually went on a fat restricted regime combined with a good exercise program and lost 35pounds...and I don't intend to find them again!
I love this board. Since moving here (away from family & lifelong friends) I have found myself feeling more than a little lonely at times; which is why I find these postings so
much fun.
Talk soon,
Sandy.

Hi you 2! Now it looks like I'm back on the cooking side - but guess you've tried that Raspberry-Balsamic Chicken - that is so good and just about zip fat - anyway - how are you??? Going to get ready to mallwalk - have to put my 'good-day' face on - hahah - seriously - I do - then off - going to get my hair highlighted today so won't be back until noonish - now this is an offside - if either of you want to email me/us - I have some very funny stuff - have to figure out your personalities first before I send things that are too funny - but have some really good recipes too - not from CL but my own that I like and have used for years - let me know - I think my address is posted....chat with you later.... Sandy - didn't see your post before I posted the last one - we probably know each other!!!!!!!!!! unless you are a lot younger - what part of Ottawa? Lived in Ottawa East - Hawthorne Ave - I also did the low fat thing about 3 years ago and at least 30 lbs just FELL off - have gained back about 8 or so but walking my ___ off to get them off and watching the fat thing again - diets don't work for me - they are my insurance that I won't lose weight - have a cousin in Calgary (or very near) in Sherwood something or other - do you know where I mean - I talk to her all the time and will ask - can you go to a mall to walk - I love it and have met so many great people - I have 2 golden retrievers and walk them sometimes but leave that to hubby - I love to walk and talk and they don't talk!!!!!!

Hi ladies. Just wanted you to know you're not the only oldies out there. I'm 50 & have been on HRT for 5 years. I have a 20 yr old daughter. I read this BB often but don't chit chat much. I had always been a skinny person & could eat anything. Now I'm pretty much a normal weight. Since middle age I find I have to be more careful with what I eat or I will gain. What is really annoying is the weight around my middle--having that paunchy stomach. I hate that! I really appreciate the benefits of HRT. Before I started taking it, I was actually seeing a dark shadow above my lip. Yewww. I live in Miami Beach so in the winter I can get into walking outside when it's absolutely beautiful here. In the summer it's too hot & sticky. I belong to a gym that's in one of the hotels here & it's really nice. The cardio room overlooks the pool & the ocean. Seeing those girls in string bikinis makes you work a little harder. Later...Dorothy

I had to laugh Lanie when I read your AM post about putting your 'good' face on to mall walk. We have a small exercise room in our basement & until recently I didn't give a **** what I looked like (i.e. no makeup, messy hair)... but then my partner installed these huge mirrors on the walls (so he could check his form:-). YIKES! Vanity hadn't died; it was just waiting for the mirrors:-)
I lived in the east end of town as well; in Beacon Hill actually (I guess that's officially Gloucester isn't it). And we are the same age; just turned 55 on Oct. 9th..double nickels as my partner likes to call it!
I don't know Calgary all that well..unless you count where all the malls are. I never thought I would miss Zellers! It's about an hours drive into the city (we live in the foothills of the Rockies); so it's kind of a whole day thingy. It's beautiful here; but being a city gal at heart (heavy sigh!) it lacks the pizzaz that I sometimes require to make me feel alive.
Ah well, love got me here and so far it's been well worth the move:-))) Now that's a whole other story!
Have a great day...
And I would love to see some 'funny' stuff.
Sandy.

This is too funny - looks like we 4 are the grannies - hahahahah - oh well - let's just keep putting on our 'good day faces' - it's true about those mirrors - makes you want to run out and by retinol - which I did by Lancome - it's called 'Re-Surface' and it really does work - Dorothy - you are sooo lucky to live in Florida - only get there usually once a year - this year my son is getting married in Jamaica in January, so we are going to that and that may just do it - except for a trip to Myrtle Beach that we make every spring before it gets busy - I just love it there! If my ship-so-to-speak ever came in - that would be where I would move to - I don't like it when it is busy with a whole pile of kids though - all golfers when we go and only day and half drive - Sandy you will have to email me in order for me to email you back - I got some VERY funny stuff today!!!!!!!! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif

Ahhhhhh... Florida... beaches, sunshine, freshly squeezed orange juice, my first Margarita (geeze, was it that long ago?).
I am truly jealous:-) I love Florida and have been up, down and across most of it.
And Myrtle beach was another favourite. Most of my time spent there was when my children were little; but my GF & I had a blast golf vacation there about 10 years ago (and the golf wasn't bad either!).
I will be in Miami actually on Nov. 11th to board the Norwegian Sky for a week of cruising the Caribbean. My first cruise...anybody else ever been??
And Iqueen.. how about you... what's it like living in Georgia? And what keeps you busy?
Hey Lanie; going to Calgary tomorrow (for an overniter actually). Look out Lancome counter!
p.s. I recently discovered that wine has zero fat...so I figure there must be a God!!
Cheers,

Lanie, I definitely qualify for your over 50. In my mind I am still SO young that when those darling young men pass by, I often wonder why they don't do a double-take like they used to??...and then the dreadful mirror tells me why. Yes, I take the HRT pills. When I don't, I still get the hot flushes. An total hysterectomy when I was 47 set "the change" in motion. Even though I weigh too much, I will not blame the pills. I just have to get the body in motion.

We were supposed to go on a cruise in January to the Carribean. It was on Premier Cruise Lines--the one that was seized by their lien holder. It was a music cruise sponsored by Delbert McClinton--I'm sure you guys probably don't know who he is. He's a musician out of Texas & every year he has this cruise with lots of bands. I'm an accountant & could never take off in January to go but the company I work for has been acquired by a larger company & things have changed so my boss said I could go. Then the cruise line goes belly up! McClinton got another cruise line to take us on but the date changed to the week of Jan. 2--no way I could take off because of job responsibilties so we (husband & me) had to cancel. The other change was that it is now going to Mexico--I'd already done that cruise a few years ago so I don't mind missing that part.
It's funny that you all a golf fans. I've only played once in my life. I've never been athletically inclined so I always assume I will be bad at any sport I try so I don't try. But just recently I've been thinking maybe I should give it a try.

Dorothy and Lanie, One of my galpals is totally blind. She used to golf all the time. On her asking, I took her to a local miniature golf place for burgers and fun....guess what? She beat me....and I did OK...but she did better !!!!! It was great! We had a lot of laughs; I did a lot of bending over; we got some rays; ate a low quality burger; took her grocery shopping; ran into some friends and had coffee; picked up some TCBY yogurt for her freezer and thought we had a really nice day of it. They say smiling will improve your facial muscles, and we did plenty of that.

Have you guys heard of the magazine 'more'? It's for women our age. I just got the Dec issue this week. There's lots of good stuff in there. I like it because it has interviews with real people about concerns women our age have. Like in this issue there's articles on menopause and exercising at our age. I don't know if you can find it at the supermarket. You may have to look at the magazine racks in book stores. But if you get a chance, check it out.

Well Mary - so happy you are with this great 'huge' bunch of oldies - hehehhe - I'm sorry that you don't get too many 'double-takes' - better get that Re-Surface stuff!!!!!
Dorothy - I am so not athetically inclined but I just love golfing - I NEVER keep score - just have fun - I have been going to the same little par 3 for 3-4 years and intend to keep on going there - don't really aspire to be good - you really should try it - it always amazes me that I can actually hit the ball (sometimes)!

Had a great time in Calgary...ate way too much, drank way too much, slept in too late..ahhh, lovely http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif.
I used to play golf ladies (and I use the word 'play' loosely); but other things kept getting in the way so I retired the clubs to the basement. Dragged em out this summer to play with my golfnut buddy when she came to visit..you cannot imagine what it's like to have to remove your ball from between some Elk's legs:-). There are literally hundreds of them on the course out here (they're protected by the National Park). And I thought Canadian Goose droppings were bad!!!
Ah well, my GF was thrilled.
I went to the Lancome counter on Friday; and the girl told me that they're having a huge sale end of October; so now I have an excuse to go shopping again!
I'd love to get a look at the More magazine; can we get it in Canada. I guess it would be too much to wish that it says we should cut back on exercise at our age http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif.
Drove home yesterday thru a snowstorm..YUK!!!!!!!! Partner was thrilled; gotta get out those skis...I'm sure if God had wanted us to hurtle down big mountains he would have given us longer feet.
p.s. How do you get those little icons into your post?
Have a great day..
Gotta go and exercise before Coronation Street starts..

Hi All! Great that you had a 'GOOD' time Sandy - I did pretty much the same - eating and drinking-wise - unfortunately had to do it right here!!!!! If that stuff goes on sale - grab it - I also hear Vichy has a new product that is supposed to be very good and has Vitamin C in it and the retinol - and I think about $38.00 Canadian - there was an article about it in this mo's Readers Digest - so just might try that next time. Snow Sandy - well it is getting that time - beautiful day here - going to take my mom for a drive then to lunch somewhere - I live just north of Toronto so it's a little countryish (sp/word?) and the leaves are magnificent right now. Haven't skied for about 20 years - my 'first' H was a ski instructor in Ottawa and I was forced to ski and got 'not too bad' not great - I'm a little reluctant to go back at it - but one never knows!!!!!!
Dorothy - the 'More' mag sounds really good - well check around - but we don't always get the good mags in Canada - thanks for the info and all you have a great day http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif

Do you guys find that as you get older you're more reluctant to give out your age when you meet people who are a lot younger? We just started a CL supper club here & my husband & I are the oldest of the group with the next youngest couple being in their 30's. I'm not sure how old the other 2 women in the group are but probably late 20's or 30ish. Last night we got together & one girl was saying her parents were considering moving down here in a few years & we talked about areas that they may be interested in living. I asked how old her parents were--in their early 50's she says. Do I feel old! I guess my insecurity lies in the fact that when I was in my 20's & 30's I really had no interest being friends with people that were that much older than myself and am afraid of being rejected on that basis now. I also know that 50 today is a lot younger than it was in my mother's day. When I expressed this insecurity to my friend at work who is in her 30's, she assured me they will only know I'm that old if I tell them. It's hard to meet new people in general much less putting an age requirement into the calculation. You guys have any thoughts on this?
Laura
10-22-2000, 03:24 PM
Dorothy, I don't qualify to be on this thread since I am only 38, but I must say if I were you I wouldn't worry about being older. I have many friends in their 50's who I really enjoy spending time with. It really is where your head is. Likewise I have a good friend who is 14 years younger than me. I about lost it when I figured she was closer to my daughter's age than mine, but the fact of the matter is we share similar interests and enjoy spending time together. Is a 20 something going to be your best friend? Unlikely, but I am sure you both can gain a lot from the friendship. My guess is she has no idea how old you are and thinks of you being substantially younger than her parents so take it as a compliment! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/wink.gif

Smilies (or Graemlins, as we like to call them) are small graphical images that can be used to convey an emotion or feeling. Let's face it, sometimes words alone do not suffice. Adding a winking smilie, for instance, may help you clarify that you are joking. Use your smilies sparingly, though-- if overused, smilies can be downright annoying.
If you have used email or internet chat, you are likely familiar with the smilie concept. Certain standard emoticons are automatically converted into smilies. Here's the list of currently accepted smilies:
What to Type Emotion Graphic That Will Appear

Thanks Mary... I am used to the emoticons used during 'chat' and I must be doing something right, cause my last post had 2 smiley faces in it...exactly what I had intended.
Hey Dorothy, I can relate to your comments; I felt the same way (aware of age diffs. in some situations). But then I took a parttime job as a bartender and was thrown into the fray with a lot of younger employees. And I discovered that it was FUN! Made me remember how I'd felt and thought at that age. I came away from that work experience with some new friends. And after 10 years I still keep in contact with several of them...mind you, they're getting older now:-)
Hey, somebody got their keyboard fixed!! And I have tried the Vichy products and think they're great. Geeze, do you ever get over the need/want to erase all the lines that life has given you? Maybe at 60? Probably not, my Mom had a facelift at 70!! She said she just wanted to feel better about herself.
Gotta run, got that "Hot Fudge Cappucino Cheesecake" from the new CL Recipe Book in the oven.
Cheers..

Well Mary Mary - that is soooo cute - how on earth do we DO them - hahahahah - I really want to know how to do the guy that seems to be yelling all the time????? I could fill a page.....Dorothy - there is a group here in Toronto doing the dinners as well and they have included me (invited me) and I did send back saying that they were probably years younger than myself and did get a reply and told me their respective ages which were mid-thirties and didn't give a hoot how old I was and said just come - will probably join them next month - along with another 'senior' friend hahahaha - I also have to say that I have had so many 'senior moments' here I can't believe how many times I repeated myself - I look before I leap - the story of my life! and now can't remember whether I leapt or not! I also should mention - see there I go again - I am in touch daily with a young gal who is exactly the same age as my daugher (28-29) and we have a really great/funny online relationship which I thoroughly enjoy - however, I do know what you mean - when I was even 30 - 50 year olds were ancient and I do feel the same way - that is why I questioned the group here!!!!! Hey - maybe we just look and act so darn young 'they' want to take lessons - hahahaha! Dorothy - you mentioned on another 'string-post' that you wanted recipes - you will have to email me - my address above - and I will forward on to you http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif (D) (d) (f) (f)

Hi everybody:-)
Well, we've been busy cutting down trees & chopping wood. Geeze, for a city gal I don't make a bad lumberjack! We have a very large property that we're trying to clear...and yes, we do have central heat; the wood's for the fireplace. But it's great to be outdoors in the Fall; the smell in the air is wonderful. Mind you; I'd rather be strolling a beach somewhere..listening to my inner thighs rub together..what is it with that? At my age, no matter what I do, they still refuse to stop all that jiggling! It's like, one day I looked down and I had some 'old ladies' legs:-)
Only two weeks to 'cruise' day....
Cheers,
Sandy.

The weather here is turning great--meaning it's cooling down. We've had our air conditioning off for 2 weeks--there's been years we had it on at Thanksgiving. Some people here leave it on all year--that's not for me. So the cooler air inspires me to get out and walk more. I've made a resolution to lose 5 lbs by Christmas. I lost 7 lbs last Spring by walking a lot and watching what I eat & haven't put it back on. It's just a matter of staying inspired long enough to get the pounds off! I've been sneaking into the Halloween candy--I really should have bought stuff I don't like or at least waited until the day before to buy it. Hope you all have a good week.

Am I the only one who looks for an excuse not to do my walking http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/eek.gif ?
For a few weeks I said it was too hot; then I said it was too rainy; now I am saying that it is too cold early in the mornings when I like to get my walking done http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/confused.gif Is there no pleasing me? http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/rolleyes.gif I keep saying that I want to lose, but you would never guess it to look at all my procrastinations http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/tongue.gif
Lanie, are you walking the dogs
Dorothy
11-02-2000, 07:20 AM
Mary, I can find all kinds of excuses not to exercise. Sometimes I just get burnt out. When my dog was alive, he was a good excuse to get out there & I felt guilty when I didn't walk him. I'm tempted to get another dog just to have a reason to walk. As I mentioned in a previous post, I've vowed to lose 5 lbs. I've lost one so far and that has inspired me to keep going. You just need some inspiration. Keep the faith!

Hi everyone! Happy to see this 'string' is still 'alive so-to-speak' - I guess everyone is getting busy with Thanksgiving and Xmas - but it's nice to keep in touch here - I did well with the walking and weight for a while - then last night went out for chicken wings (love those things) and fries and that just seems to get me going on a 'fast food lane' - having salmon tonight so MAYBEEE I'll get my bearings again......must be really nice there now Dorothy - my friend is coming back from Naples on Tuesday - think she has had a great week there - our weather (here in TO) has been ok - not great - but very Fall-like - but - I didn't expect it to turn to Summer!!!!!! Actually, I like this time of year, all the leaves have fallen, you can smell the fireplaces burning, and I don't feel dumb going to bed at 7 PM (cause it's already dark!!!!! hehehe) - what are you all doing for Christmas? till we chat next... lanie http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif

I'm on the 55 heading to the next number, but it surely beats the alternative; am married; have one daughter about to hit 30 and is whinging about it (told her to think of where THAT puts me!!)and another who is 25. I'm originally from the Land Down Under and have lived in the US off and on for 31 years - the "off" portions were accompanying husband to live in Europe and South America. My wings have been clipped for 10 years now as we live in a small town on the Mississippi in the chilly Midwest - pop. about 60,000. Did rush out and threw all my splurge $$ into Lancome today in hopes. Would like to say that being a devotee of Vegemite has caused my blossoming but I fear its just my love of cooking and after all, one does need to have a good "layer" for winter. I, too, Mall walk, take HRT, joined a gym but struggle to get there, and definitely want to lose 10-12 lbs. Synthroid has changed my proportion or maybe it was the Merlot. Have been as healthy as a horse but for 6 weeks have been side-lined even from walking by bursitis in the hip. Anyone have any experience with this nuisance?

Lanie, just because YOUR Thanksgiving is past, we have to catch up before moving on to Christmas...
Bev Lee, it was years ago when I had bursitis in a shoulder joint. I think everybody within a 5-mile radius knew that I was in constant pain......
More recently, I had an unfortunate experience with plantar fascitis (the muscle tearing, or overstretched lengthwise on the bottom of the foot?)...Well, anyway, I guarantee you that you WILL NOT DO YOUR WALKING till that gets better...so I missed 2 whole weeks. Seems like it is always something...

Hey everybody...I guess we are all still here after all:-) Geeze Lanie, I wish we had your weather; we drove home tonite thru a snowstorm! Simply a harbinger of what's to come I guess. And I guess the exercise must be paying off in terms of strength; partner & I lugged a new upright freezer from the truck, up the front steps, around to the side door, into the house & down to the basement....now this was actually my fault cause since we live in the 'boonies' I would've had to wait a week for delivery..and I've never been one to wait for anything. Went to see the new Robert Redford directed "Beggar Vance" tonite with some friends. I found it incredibly boring; but they all seemed to like it. I guess there's no accounting for other people's taste http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif
Hope you're all having a good week; and welcome Bev Lee.

Welcome, Bev Lee. I'm a Mississippi River girl myself having been born & raised in St. Louis. I also did a stint in Quicy, IL which is about the size of the town your in, I think.
I was good with my walking this weekend but had 3 pinacoladas (not good). My daughter took off with the left over Reese peanut butter cups from Halloween, thank goodness. My scale is showing I lost a pound. Time will tell if it sticks.

I've just found this chat site, and am enjoying "conversations" with other 50+ women.
Bev Lee: I'm a Mississippi river girl too. sounds like your town could be mine. I grew up in Rock Island. Where do you live? And Mary, I have a heel spur that makes getting out for my walking all the more challenging. But I've recently made a committment to myself to get in exercise early before going to work at least 3 times a week. I have a clubhouse where I live with execise equipment and weights across the street from my townhouse that I've been paying for...time to use it. Sometimes it's hard to get there, but I feel like a great accomplishment when I do.

How are you all - great I hope? Actually, scrolling through our posts - I think we all have something wrong - just so you know - I have degenerative discs in my neck - have some of those spider veins on my legs (which have been attacked and will be very soon again), and of course still working on the face - love that lancome - and who knows how I will feel tomorrow!
Mary007 - didn't mean to get ahead of your Thanksgiving - just a senior moment - it's a lot bigger deal there than here and you get so much time off!!!!!!!!!!!! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/wink.gif
Sandy - you must be just about getting ready to leave - oh I wish. How on earth did you help with a freezer/fridge? I can't see what has been written so can't remember which it was(another moment). It's getting cold here too, frost on windshield this am and rain tomorrow.
Went to the casino again last week errgggg! Just can't win - so think will stay away for a bit - friend just came back from B.C. and was on a 'cruise' thingamee and won $3,700 - now that just plain does me in - the most I have ever won is $720 and a couple of $500 and that's it - anyone else like the casinos? You know, I look at the people there and NOBODY looks happy!
Happy to see this 'string' is still going http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif

Lanie, you got this post started. Somebody said, "we all seem to have 'something wrong'. Well, am I allowed to say the word, 'hemmorhoids'? Sometimes the pain is so sickening I need to take a day off..sorry to whine..but some of you MUST know the suffering? THAT will keep me from my walking and exercising for sure...poor me, sorry...just wanted to get it off my..........chest?

Well Mary - what can I say - hmmm... hemmorhoids - gee had mine removed - you should think about that! How are your feet, I also have a fungus in/on one of my fingernails from having false nails for 12 years and have had 4 cortizone shots and about $1000 of meds and it won't go away - it has been almost 4 years in January - sure hope my face doesn't get fungus from the 'Re-Surface' yikes!
How are you all - I guess the majority of you are getting ready for Thanksgiving - are you all having/going for dinner? Hope they have the results of whom your new President will be by then - boy that is amazing - to think you can have the most powerful job in the world hinging on - is it 1,000 votes!!!! We have an election here next week and at the end of the month but don't expect it to be interesting at all.
Take care and will be back soon http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/wink.gif lanie

Hey girls...
Well I'm off tomorrow (dragging all my foils and foibles with me:-) Got my first ever leg waxing yesterday (won't be the last). Bound for an Eastern Caribben 7 day cruise..just in time; we must have a foot of snow in the yard!
Babying a tooth that has to come out; my dentist (must be all of 30..but, at least a female) wouldn't do it before I left in fear of postextraction problems so I'm carrying the old trusty antibiotics with me. I'll just eat lots of soft foods (or was that drink lots of wine:-)))).
Have a great week everyone...I will!
Sandy.

How do you OUTDOOR walkers deal with dry, chapped skin? Maybe It is just because I am over 50 that I have it??

I could volunteer for the crone position on this topic, since I'm long past 50. Someone remarked in one of the postings that she didn't feel older; I think that's true for me, too, but I notice some shifts in what feels important to me. That's been even more true since I retired a year ago.

I really enjoy these notes from over 50's. Tell me about how you deal with nerves as the crush of holiday deadlines push down on you?

Not Well!!!!! I always start to get very anxious about things not getting done - and having to do everything - then of course - evening out for 'everyone' I love when the evening/day comes - but boy what a hassel (for me) it to get things to be Christmas! Boy I sure do sound like the Grinch!
All the baking gets eaten way before, just around now - gotta make sure everything is clean all over the house - outside decorations up, inside done - well I could just ramble on and on and bore you more and more - Merry Christmas! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/wink.gif
I also would like to add, that being as how we are in a '50ish' group here - things are getting harder to do each year! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/frown.gif

Read through the last 45 days of the over 50 Group and a lot of interesting messages. Glad to see there is a representative group of over 50 women out there - any from the East Coast of USA. Since last year, took early retirement and takes some getting use to even with hobbies. Have more sympathy for my husband now as he has been out of the working world for several years. I'm gaining too much weight. Some of my over 50 friends do not have that problem but a few do. I lack motivation, but this month will make the attempt with a check-up. To those in Canada, visited Toronto for wedding in October a beautiful city. Thanks for the tip on Lacome, Re-surface will try it. Is MORE a USA or Canadian publication. Not sure what MRT is, however am on a hormone suppliment since early 40s.
Keep up the good work.

Well, vacation trip is over, and I'm once again scrambling to keep busy. What does everyone else do with all those extra hours that come with retirement? I find that if I'm not busy most of the day doing something productive I start to feel guilty.
Xmas this year will be very quiet; just hubby and I....the entire family is on the other side of the country. So I will (for this year anyway) miss all the hectic preparations. It will be a first for me; no family or friends around...thought this would be a good excuse to skip the tree...but just can't seem to do that!
Ah well, can't complain...we're sending summer time plane tickets to my daughter, son-in-law and two grandsons as a Xmas gift.
Just as an aside, I only gained 2 pds. on my trip!!!! Couldn't believe it...we ate like the proverbial oinkers....

Hi Sandy! Good to see you! The 'cruise' was I am sure amazing - now back to the yuk snow - we are having a major storm here in Toronto - started in Windsor right through to Ottawa overnight - it is wicked! Yep all the goings-on have started, only 1 1/2 weeks left until D-Day. Only just put the lights up outside, decorated the tree on Saturday and now I just have to get my ___ moving to buy some presents - only have one to date. Bought myself MasterCook and of course do not have a clue what to do with it - bought it for my daughter for Xmas as well - so will let her educate me!
Things are changing so quickly here, my son is moving out this weekend, they get possession of their house - now just John and I, dogs and cats of course, will certainly be different. Sort of sad.......life changes. Hope we all get a post in before Christmas - look forward to them http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif lanie

I must be weird. There will only be the two of us for Christmas this year and I think it will be really nice. Maybe I can catch my breath and enjoy what it is really all about..? Snowstorm is coming today (in OHIO)so I am off to the grocery and post office now....Love to all and a happy holiday!

Hi Lanie http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif And no Mary, you're not weird. I posted earlier that it would just be two of here at Xmas this year; and I am looking forward to the quiet. Presents are wrapped and shipped, tree is bought, house is decorated and there's a blanket of fresh snow on the ground. A happy, healthy Yuletide season to everyone!
