My DD has all of a sudden started getting diaper rashs. We are slathering her little tushie in aquaphor or triple paste, which helps, but I know that there are other things that have worked for other people. Maybe there is a better solution? I thought maybe we could get a list going for all of the little CLBB tushies out there! :p

Meredith - Maxwell usually only get diaper rash when he is teething quite a bit. Balmex seems to work well for him, along with baby powder. I also make sure to wipe the area and dry it really well and let everything "air out" before putting the diaper back on.

Hi Meredith...sorry to hear about Illyssa's poor little bottom! We swear by Boudreaux's butt paste...we have had some pretty awful rashes here over the years and this is the ONLY thing that works for us (even better than the Drs. Rx drugs that we pay $20 for and it doesn't even touch it!).

I hope it gets better soon :)!

I've heard good things about Beaudreaux's Butt Paste too, Anita. Aquaphor has always done the trick for Owen, and I've read here on the BB that smearing Maalox on their bums helps neutralize the acid. She must be getting teeth. :)

We swear by Boudreaux's, too. It really does the trick, especially on rashes caused by digestive issues. It's very soothing on nasty rashes, and is also a good preventative.

I loved Boudreaux's Butt Paste too, had a tube that was used only when DS had a rash. It's great. Also used Maalox with very good results, especially on his worst rashes when you really didn't want to have to rub something in. The absolute best thing for his rashes though was suggested to us by our pediatrician, and that was air! Leave the diaper off as much as possible. Messy but effective ;)

Try putting baking soda in the bathtub during her baths. Just sprinkle some in while the water is running. Lots of naked-bottom time helps clear things up as well.

This may sound crazy, but I actually rigged up my hair dryer in my son's bedroom to blow dry his bum! That way I didn't have to let him crawl around nekkid (if course, I did this AFTER he peed in my lap...).

We did not find the Beaudreaux's Butt Paste to work for Ilyssa. Too bad, sounds like others have had luck with it.

I will be off to buy some Maalox today. Ilyssa loves her baths (most of the time), so I will do the baking powder too. I let Ilyssa play naked on towels a lot, and yesterday we heard the telltale grunting  . Of course, I looked, and did not see anything, so I let her keep playing. It was a sneaky little doody that spread everywhere by the time this clueless mom found it! :D

Tracy- Ha! I will keep the blowdryer in mind.

Meredith, I've had good luck with mixing Maalox with Desitin. Colin had a horrible diaper rash a while ago, and our daycare suggested mixing equal parts of Aquaphor and Maalox. You have to do it in the food processor or with an immersion blender or something, but it did work for Colin. Also giving him some nekked time (I'd put him to bed for a nap without a diaper on) seemed to help.

We also used cotton balls and plain warm water to clean him up during diaper changes. No wipes for a few days until it healed.

Whan our DD had baaaad diaper rashes, we would bathe her often, and rinse her down every diaper change with water & washcloth. We also would put her in loose cotton pants without a diaper for 10-20 minutes at a a time when we could. We would do that right after she had urunaited(we could tell she had peed cause she would scream from the pain!) Good luck, I know how horrible it can be for the little ones(and you!)

Apparently Rosie O'Donnell says you should let a dog lick your child's behind.

Between the dog butt-licking and a discussion of Rosie's "fur" .....YIKES! I don't think the girl knows the meaning of discretion.

Wanted to add this because it wasn't mentioned yet ...

If the rash is really bad, it could be a yeast infection. Gabe had that happen a couple of times, and the only thing that works is Lotrimin (as in the same thing you use for athlete's foot). My lactation consultant also said you can mix genetian violet (available at any drug store - ask the pharmacist) with Desitin ... but that would turn her butt blue. If you ask me, the Lotrimin solution is a lot easier. :)

Our Doc recommended a mixed paste of 1%hydrocortisone cream (we just got the generic CVS brand) and Lotrimin. We just dab a little of each on our fingers, mush it together and apply liberally. It seems to really help Charlie's rash when he has it.
