Do I dare start this today? Actually I wasn't bad last week, not great, but not bad. My fiance and I were good last night, went out for sushi, only had 2 beers, and home in bed early. I caught a glimpse of New Year's Rockin' Eve and it reminded me of how when I was 14 I would have killed to be there on New Year's Eve and how happy I was now to be getting a good night's sleep and not waking up with a hangover.
I started the poll on New Year's goals and I specifically didn't list any health related ones (cutting my time in the triathlon doesn't count.) This week I am focusing on taking care of myself. Sometimes that means an extra session at the gym and sometimes that means an extra scoop of Starbucks Java Chip ice cream. I wish all of you the best this year. Laura

Ugh, did someone say "hangover"? Owwww, my achin' head. All those happy little champagne bubbles have turned into independent jackhammers. Luckily I got in a great workout yesterday. I "relaxed" a little in the week between Christmas and (ouch) New Year's but am overall very happy that I'm starting off the millenium in reasonably good shape - way better than last year. It feels great to have "maintain and strive for even better fitness" as goals instead of "lose 30 pounds." And a lot is happening to support me on the way - our gym merged with a big facility and the grand opening is today - all new machines, equipment, classes, etc. In addition, a yoga/dance studio is opening by my office so I'll have a place for lunchtime motivation. I'm starting off the year with a big pot of bean soup with Swiss chard for health and good luck in the year ahead! I wish you all the same.

Well I haven't posted lately, because I've been really bad!! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/frown.gif
I don't know why but this year I just couldn't get enough of the sweets.
So right after Christmas I made a committment to myself that I was going to get control and well I'm happy to say I started doing intervals on Tuesday and only missed one day (Friday), I have done between 2-3 miles everyday, I actually got my DH started on Saturday with me, and he's committed as well. So I'm hoping we can keep each other in check, (it will be hard, cuz he works 12 hour days) but I'm hoping we can work out after the kids go to school in the mornings. I'm also going to try to go back to the gym next week after my kids go back to school (their out until January 8th--ugh!)
Oh well enough rambling, thanks for listening and I wish everyone Luck and Health in 2001.

I am still struggling with this injury and am going to the doctor again today. I managed to maintain weight over the holidays, which makes me happy, and I am now able to do some walking. My first goal for the New Year is to heal whatever this is, then I will get back on the fitness track.

Happy New Year! My only real New Years Resolution is to run a marathon, but I also have plans to count calories and try to stay between 1500-2000 calories a day. Over the holidays I did pretty well. I ran 3 times and went hiking once (very strenuous). Tried to watch my portion sizes and did okay while at my MIL's. However, when I got to my parents house with my mother's cooking, I had a harder time with it. Didn't gain any weight, but we were only there for 2 days.
Good riddance to a rotten ending year. I hope to get back on track (do I sound like a broken record, or what!) and work out more frequently. Tae Bo as a Christmas gift ought to help. Did a test this morning. Made scones (serving size: 2) and wanted to see just how many we'd eat. So I didn't tell DH what a serving was. I made myself stop at 4, DH ate 6 before I told him. So...resolve to observe serving sizes. No wonder I haven't lost any weight. All those healthy calories still equal fat on hips if they exceed energy expended. As much as I hate to measure and weight food before putting it on a plate, I just may have to do it. Maybe I'll try scaling recipes too. It just seems like so much work to just make 4 scones.

Hi all. I think I may have made it through my first holiday unscathed. I think I posted last week that my MIL was here for Christmas and helped keep me motivated - we made it to the gym 4 times during her visit.
This last week was the real test. I was a guest at my best friend's/SIL's house for the past 5 days or so and she doesn't exercise at all - or have any equipment. I think the only thing that saved me is that they got snow in PA and we went sledding - so I got exercise trudging through the snow and pulling kids on sleds. Not to mention the exercise I got playing with and running after my two nieces. Whew!!
I was looking forward to working out and weighing in today (haven't been to the gym since last Tuesday), but my husband's car won't start and he had to take mine. So, I'm cursing this darned cold weather and sno. However, the snow may also save me because it looks like I'll be shoveling AGAIN today, so I'll get some exercise. We were hoping to come home to warmer weather, but it's still cold and snowed another 3 inches or so while we were gone.
I'll TRY to stop complaining about the snow and cold, but I can't promise anything - our bedroom window is now leaking from all the snow, ice and icicles..... http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/frown.gif .

Oh how I can empathize with the woes of snow and cold weather. Ice is still covering my road, my usual spot for running. There does seem to be light at the end of the tunnel though... after frigid weather for a month, we will actually get above freezing today. At 6:30 this morning I was getting in the car to head to the gym. It was 22 degrees which felt downright balmy compared to what it has been lately!
I have been avoiding posting my goals/progress lately because I feel as if I have been a complete failure. I ate myself silly over the holidays and exercised minimally. I am now a at least a week behind on my running program, and gained about 3 pounds. http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/frown.gif
Good news is that I did run today, it was great and by next week should be back on track. To motivate me to lose weight, on Saturday I bought the pair of black leather pants I have been eyeing for about 6 months. They are tight, so I need to lose the weight so they will look great while I am in Vegas later this month! So far, it has been exceptionally motivating. http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif
Good day to all, Gina

Hello all! I've read these threads several times before and am just now getting around to chiming in...
I consider myself to be a healthy person in general--I try to stick to a low fat diet as much as possible and get plenty of exercise. I love dancing--modern dance is my passion, but I also enjoy jazz, Latin, ballroom, African, etc. I also enjoy going to various types of fitness classes at my gym as well as walking.
Over the past year, I've felt as if I haven't been as motivated to exercise as much, and I've allowed myself to indulge more often in yummy food, alcohol, etc. I guess I've had a difficult time balancing exercise/healthy eating with a social life...choosing to go out with friends too often.
For the upcoming year, I am aiming to get back into a healthier mode...go to more fitness classes at the gym while maintaining my dance classes and eating healtier, natural foods. Of course, my husband and I will still enjoy socializing with our friends, but I plan to balance this better and stick to a tighter exercise regimen. Hopefully, this BB will help with the motivation part!
Good luck to all of you in the new year!

I have said this before and I will say it again--as much as I hate having to run inside on the treadmill rather than outside in my beautiful neighborhood, getting on a treadmill in front of a mirror for some reason is REALLY motivating!
