Hi,

Do any of you runners out there know anything about the magazine featured on this website?
http://www.marathonandbeyond.com/learn.htm

I have heard a bit about it, but not too much. There is a lot of info about it (and supposedly a subscription deal) on http://www.marathonguide.com . Just thought I would share and see if anyone had actually seen an issue of it. No, this is not an advertising plug - just little old Natasha asking questions as usual... http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/biggrin.gif

Natasha,

Are you sure you're not trying to sell us something? http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/wink.gif Just kidding, of course.

I've heard of Marathon and Beyond before, but for some reason, even after visiting the site, I thought it was only an organization. It sounds really cool, though, and I'm definitely going to check it out...now I'm intrigued by Running Times, as well. I would imagine that since it's published by a former RW editor, it must be good http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/wink.gif

Emily,

If you do have a look at it, please let me know what you think! It does sound good.

If Running Times is what I'm thinking of, I've read through it a few times and like it quite well, but IMHO it doesn't compare to RW...

How is your training for Boston going?

I'll do my first "marathon distance" long run on the 21st of January...Boston's on the 16th of April, I think, so that gives me time to work up to 22 with 2 weeks for tapering.
I'm so excited!
How about you?

Hey Natash and Emily-

I checked out the magazine on-line too. I think it looks pretty good and am thinking about subscribing. I would love to get a hold of a copy of one first, since that is typically what I do before I "commit" to a subscription. I may check around locally and see if I can find one. While surfing, I did find a training program for first marathons that I think I am going to use.

Speaking of running (which I so often do) have you heard of the new gadget that Nike has out? Supposedly it measures times and distance as you are running. It is not a pedometer... it is some high tech thing that you attach to your shoelace and it sends information to a "receiver" on your wrist. Just wondering if any of you have one, have heard of it, or know someone who has one? They sound totally cool.

And, just so you know that this too is not an ad, I have been boycotting Nike for several months and as much as I want this little gizmo, will most likely wait until another manufacturer comes out with one before I get one. Gina

Emily,

That IS exciting! Don t forget to keep us posted on how things are going. I know you ll do great at Boston!

Things were going quite well here too until last night when less than half a mile from the end of the run suddenly I sprained the middle of my left foot. As soon as I d done it I knew that this was bad - not the usual aches and pains you sometimes get. We then spent the evening treating the darn thing with ice massage etc. and it is not very swollen, but is it ever sore. As I write this I am icing it periodically. I have to have it checked out soon and running is obviously out of the question for now as even walking is slow and a bit painful.

I m really REALLY down about this because I know that these things can take a few weeks to heal and I don t have a few weeks right now. I keep telling myself that in the scheme of things it s not bad; I could have gotten a worse injury, and there are things in life that are far worse than any normal running injury. But most of the time that doesn t stop me from feeling sorry for myself! When I am running or at least working out regularly, I m usually a very happy person, but when I m injured - WATCH OUT!! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/biggrin.gif My friends and family are on guard. Time to go to work and warn my colleagues... http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/wink.gif Sorry to whine, but thanks for listening.

Gina, I don t know anyone with that product, but will let you know if I hear about anyone who does. If you do end up buying one in the future, please let us know what you think of it. I m curious! Though I would probably not buy one myself because I don t even wear a simple watch when I run. http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/wink.gif
