I wanted to tell someone about this book, and my DH is just ho-hum about a "chick book", but it is really wonderful. My Sister's Keeper, by Jodi Picoult, is about a girl who was conceived to be the genetic match for her sister who has leukemia. At the age of 13 she hires a lawyer to help her become medically emancipated from her parents, so that she will not have to donate a kidney to her sister.

This is much more than a courtroom drama, but a story about what it means to love, parents to children, children to parents, love between siblings, and there is even a side romance involving the lawyer. There's a dog, too. I am a sucker for a story with a dog.

This is a book about the difference between morals and ethics, with a couple of twists. I will be thinking about this novel for a long time.

Hi Essie,

Thanks for the book recommendation, and welcome to the boards! :)

There are a lot of Jodi Picoult fans on the boards, from what I've seen, and I think some of them also read and enjoyed this book. I've only read a couple of her books so far, but the timing of your post is a funny coincidence because I just started reading that book two days ago! I'm about 1/3 of the way into it. Hope I enjoy it as much as you did.

Natasha :)

Essie - I loved this one as well. I read it shortly after giving birth to my 2nd daughter. I remember sobbing when I read it, because it was so moving and I was still very hormonal! :)

Natasha- hope you enjoy it!

I read this book a few weeks ago and couldn't put it down. I was hesitant to read it at first--just wasn't up for the cancer spin (I have volunteered w/ many children with cancer, some terminial). I'm glad I finally picked it up.

I now consider myself a Jodi Piccoult fan. I've also read Plain Truth, Harvesting the Heart, and Vanishing Acts, and have liked them all. I need to get my hands on some more of her books.

Natasha, I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!
Sue, I wasn't hormonal when I read it, but I did a fair share of sobbing myself.
