DH just set me up and I am truly loving it, he is still working on his and it is not going well, got me out of his way. My old computer was stuck in his office in the corner. I can now go anywhere in the house! I think Kwormann and JHaris are Wi-Fi. Anyone else?

Enjoy!

I thought almost everyone was. :)

If you have broadband why not have it on every computer in the house? I have Linksys system and a Linksys Music Bridge hooked up to my sound system so I can send music files and net radio to it. I also have my Tivo hooked up wireless.

I have been wi-fi for a couple of years now. I love it! I will say that I'm on the computer WAY more than I should be as I can now be online while watching tv...egads!!!

I have been wi-fi for a couple of years, and I love it! However, as Terri mentioned it does make it way to easy to spend time on the computer. I love that I can take my laptop into the room where my kids are (or, now that they are getting older, the room where my kids aren't ;) ) whenever I want to even if I have things I really need to get done.

Almost.

Our internet connection is wireless, but we have PCs at home, so we're still wired.

DH has a laptop at work, but rarely brings it home.

A laptop would be fun, but a PC was still less expensive overall for what we needed.

Well, I was until all my neighbors realized they shouldn't have unsecured networks!

I'm truly not a luddite, but I've got to say...I miss having the actual paper (yes, the wood product) newspapers in bed on Sunday morning with my coffee. I know, it's illogical.

I have been wireless for about 4 years now! I truly advise securing your wireless. My first wireless was with a roommate who was a network security specialist for the State Department. The first night we had it up he hadn't secured it and something like 16 logins happened in 12 hours! Not securing your network allows access to all sorts of information on your computers...

There are people that will drive up and down streets with laptops and look for open networks. If they find one, they glean what financial or personal info they can to steal your identity. Everyone knows about keeping credit/debit cards safe, but most people don't realize that their network is an open door to their life.

We've been wireless for a few years. This summer I got a laptop as an anniversary present. We also bought a wireless printer router (or whatever you call that thingy), so we can be anywhere in network range and print to our printer in our office. :D I've done computer stuff outside on our deck. I love it.

I thought about mentioning that last night. DH has worked on that We have been Wi-Fi at school for several years doing grades, lesson plans, and email with Wi-Fi, I just never put that together for home us until we both traded in our tower units for laptops. What's next??

Heh, I felt like a memo went out overnight, since I went from a good dozen unsecured networks to...zero in a few weeks' time. No big surprise that I'm not a hacker or pursuing identity theft, but I did appreciate my free wi-fi, courtesy of the neighbors. Our fab mayor was installing wi-fi hot zones across the city, but the closest one is three blocks down the hill - out of reach, alas.
Sheesh, it's feeling like I'll have to take responsibility for my own technology resources!

LOL - I know what you mean. I've logged on to neighbors networks when ours was down for whatever reason. The thing that really surprises me is that these people make it obvious who they are by giving their networks names that would be obvious who it is. We've had our PC wireless for some time and I just ordered my laptop yesterday, so I am looking forward to a little more freedom in the house with it.

I wondered if any of you tech savy folks know if I can have one wi-fi account for two separate homes? Both homes are in MA but they are 40 miles apart. How would I set something like that up? TIA!

I agree. It cracks me up that my cable provider actually CHARGES people extra for wireless. Hello!!! Just buy a wireless router.

We use our own (protected) connection, but we receive 8-10 signals from neighbors at any given time--and yes, most of them are pretty obvious "Sam's Network" for example.

On a side note, although we are wireless, my laptop rarely leaves my desk. . . AND I still read a paper newspaper with my coffee every morning.

DH's computer is wireless, but my PC is wired into the system, since it's a desktop, that's ok with me... Now, we have the printer wireless, and DH usually sends something to be printed when I have recipe cards in the printer! OOPS! ;)

Yes, WLS here and love it.

Still trying to figure out why Canice can't still read the actual paper in bed on Sunday mornings, tho? I definitely still do that! :-)

I don't think you can set this up. There are not home wireless networks with that kind of power. You'll need an internet connection at each location and if you want to be wireless at both a separate router at each location. Sorry!

Thanks for the reply Robyn. Unfortunately that's pretty much what I thought.
