Hi, everyone. I need some advice--I went skiing last week and then rested on Monday and then ran lightly yesterday. I am just a tiny bit sore, mostly in my calves and neck, strangely enough. Would y'all recommend resting for today/tomorrow or doing another light workout to speed recovery? Thanks in advance.

I went skiing last week for the first time in 13+ years and my calves and shins were sore the next day. I just did light workouts and that did the trick!
Now I can't wait to go back http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/biggrin.gif

I know the feeling - but my problem is I am just out of shape! I started my exercise routine again last week. I have been walking on the treadmill for at least 40 minutes a night. I know I need to keep it up - cuse I can barely walk up stairs without a wince!! The trainer at the gym told me to keep exercising - just if I hurt - to do a shorter workout the next day.

Emilycat--you were right! I just got back from a 3-miler, short but sweet, and feel much better and loosened up. I think I may go to yoga tomorrow and then will feel back to my old self. Aspen was positively amazing, if a little warm, thanks for asking. That weather certainly did not bother me (a fair skier) but my SO, who is really good, would have preferred more snow. I on the other hand was more than happy to have the sun out and my hands and feet warm! Shows you how die-hard I am http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif. Surprisingly, it was about 20 degrees warmer there than here (Nashville) if you can believe that! Anyway, now I need to shake the wonder of that vacation out of my head and hit the books--the reality of school has set in!

It's a misconception to rest in order to fight off soreness...unless you've just run a marathon, or completed some other rigorous event, in which case you don't want to aggravate micro-tears in your muscles, it's better to exercise, if only lightly, to get the blood flowing through your muscles and speed recovery. Just my feelings on the issue.
By the way, how was your trip to Aspen?
