I need your creative help. My DH is the drummer for a cover band. Part of what makes them more fun is that they all dress up in costumes. Currently they have Gene Simmons, one of the Blues Brothers, Rick James/Stevie Wonder, ZZ Top, Jim Morrison, Slash, Marilyn Monroe and Cher. My DH has dressed up as Elvis (which he didn't really like) and Alex Van Halen, but they want him to be more recognizable. So I turn to you. Who should he be? His only personal restrictions...no country stars (ie Garth Brooks), no spandex, no suits. Wigs, facial hair and make-up are all fair game. He'd prefer not to be a girl. TIA.

Oh yeah he's a bigger guy so it has to be believable. So someone like Tom Petty might be a bit hard to pull off.

How about Slash from Guns n Roses? He certainly would fit the recognizable requirement, even if body size & type are way off, but he might be a little out of the genre?

Edited::: ok...duh...Slash already on the list. Too late, must go sleepy.

When I read the thread I thought you your looking for Rock Star Supernova! So I guess I am throwing Tommy Lee into the mix.

What about Sammy Hagar...pre-haircut, of course!

Which VanHalen front man was the one who wore the pants with the cut-out buttocks in the mid 80s? That would be, well, something!

I'm looking at your list for inspiration, and I'm not sure how Marilyn Monroe fits in!?!

Let's see---what about one of the guys from Spinal Tap?

How about Angus what's-his-name from AC/DC? Although I guess a costume with a recognizable upper body/head would be best for a drummer, since you wouldn't be able to see his whole body. How about a Beatle (post suit era - like from the Sgt. Pepper or some other physchedelic type costume)? Or Jerry Garcia?

Like Meganator's idea of Jerry Garcia. :)

First thought was Iggy Pop but then I reread and saw that you want more recognizable than one of the Van Halen's sooooo guess Iggy is out. Have you thought of David Bowie??

That's a good one. Or what about Elton John in one of his wild 70s costumes, with the big sequined glasses?

So does it have to be a rock drummer, or can it be someone who plays some other instrument? You mentioned Elvis, so I assumed the latter, but then Alex VanHalen is a drummer, so wasn't sure. Drummers are tough---since they're obscured by the drum set, not too many of them dress memorably (imo). Peter Criss (the original drummer from Kiss) would be one option, but not if you currently have a Gene Simmons. How about the drummer from ZZ Top? (not even sure of his name) Or maybe you could create some sort of one-armed shirt and he could be the drummer from Def Leppard?

Oh yeah! A ZZTop look would be easy to pull off and completely recognizable. . .

Ah... Gilgamesh37 is very observant! Does it have to be a drummer????

In the drummer category there is Charlie Watts or Ringo Star both very recognizable. Found 100 Greatest Drummers (http://www.digitaldreamdoor.com/pages/best_drummers.html) perhaps in there is some inspiration.

Please let us know what he decides.

Thanks for the suggestions so far. It doesn't have to be a drummer. I have to be his guage on who is recognizable because he will pick these obscure musicians that I know the majority of people would not recognize by sight. A small list we have going so far (with your help).

Jerry Garcia
Rob Zombie
James Hetfield (long haired version)
Elvis Costello
Flock of Seagulls (though we can't find the wig)

Keep the ideas coming. He's getting pressure from the band to step up his costume.

Oh and as for the Marilyn, she sang once didn't she ;).

If your DH can do the lip thing....Billy Idol is pretty recognizable!
