I read thru Kim's post about eating like other people. I did not post a reply on that thread b/c it looks like everything was covered. But, it got me thinking.

How would yall like to post what you eat today? Just for fun, not for analyzing.

I'm just curious. I'm one of those people who are constantly eating all day. But, lots of fruits and veggies which go right thru you, so I'm always hungry. I sometimes surprise myself at how much I eat. I have days that I eat so many apples, I get a tummy ache and feel all bloated. I am so addicted to fuji apples. At work, they provide free food including all the fruit you could want. Not a good thing all the time.

Let me know what yall think. If yall agree, I'll post my intake today on this thread tomorrow.

Just a suggestion. I tend to snack throughout the day too. I've found dried fruits to be more satisfying than fresh (though I do eat both).

Ok, here goes:

Breakfast was oat bran with dried fruit and some honey drizzled on top.

Lunch was left over cassoulet from last night. Very healthy with low fat smoked sausage, beans, mushrooms and tomato sauce. Lots of water today.

And right now it's 2:15 and I just snacked on a SlimFast chocolate chip cookie dough bar. (I know, it's not the best thing but sure beats the Hershey's kisses still from Christmas).

Dinner will be spaghetti with a jar sauce. Parmesan bread sticks (dough is in the bread maker right now). Looking at it, I ought to hit the salad bar at Giant.

If we crave dessert, then we'll have ff chocolate pudding (or those kisses!).

Well, I don't know if I should post what I ate. We had a two hour lunch meeting and they ordered sanwiches (swiss and ham with cole slaw- I took the turkey off of the sandwich) potato chips, pickles and a pasta salad. Oh, and cookies. Darn it! Bad day to post what I ate! I usually eat better than that! I did have a bowl of fruit for breakfast in anticipation of this meeting and I have a pear for my afternoon snack.

How about this? Below is little list you can fill out. After today, fill out the list and post it on the thread.

For Jan 11, 2001:
Breakfast:
Snack:
Lunch:
Snack:
Dinner:
Snack:

The snack can be anything eaten between the main meals. If you don't eat a standard B/L/D, then just put Meal #1, Meal #2, etc....

Sorry that little list format is just too complicated for me. For breakfast, I had a Breyer's light yogurt (strawberry-flavored) and a banana plus two cups of coffee with skim. Lunch was a grilled cheese sandwich made with soy cheese (only 40 calories and 1 g of fat--so delicious, too) and a cup of healthy choice soup, plus a chocolate rice cake for dessert. I just ate a large granny smith apple for a snack and will probably have a diet coke here soon. Finally, dinner will be a lite tina salad over greens from this incredible healthy jamaican restaurant where my SO and I eat almost every Thursday night b/c no time to cook.

I think this is the first time I have ever written down everything I ve had in a day, so bear with me. I m probably forgetting a few things, too. I tried to break things down into the categories on Angela s list, though I probably spread out the food listed below over 10 times rather than the 6-7 indicated.

For Jan 11, 2001:

Breakfast: big bowl of All-Bran with lots of milk; 1/2 cup orange juice
Snack: blueberry Newtons; banana; Reese p.b. Miniature cup
Lunch: bowl of couscous and vegetables; some barbecue miniature rice cakes; sliver of pie
Snack: apple; banana; about 15 potato wedges (1/2 a box from a deli); about 1 oz. reduced-fat cheese with a couple crackers
Dinner: bowl of vegetarian chili with huge spinach salad; 2 carrots
Snack: 2 puffed-up chocolate chip cookies
Before Bed [not yet had]: glass of milk

That s probably about what I eat many days as far as amount goes, but today was a bit junkier (time of month, I think!) http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif Angela, cool idea; it was interesting (and a bit weird) to try writing down everything!

I just started journaling my diet and exercise on New Year's Day...I've found it very helpful and motivational. There's something about writing "none" under the exercise column that motivates you to get up and do something, and it always feels great to journal a good diet day. Anyway, here's mine:
Breakfast: rice heated with rice milk and sugar (sort of like a rice pudding, I guess)
Lunch: steamed rice, buddhas delight, vegetable lo mein, sauteed cabbage, pineapple, and a little ice cream with a fried puff http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/redface.gif at our favorite Chinese spot
Snack: leftover pasta with eggplant, tomatoes, mushrooms, capers
Dinner: possibly tomatoes, mushrooms, and spinach over ciabatta toast, possibly pizza!
Snack: will be gingersnaps

Well, my day started out weird and atypical with our club meeting and ended that way as well.

Before breakfast - orange juice, tea.
Breakfast/brunch was the French Onion-Beef Bowl, Chocolate-Cream Pie and Diet Coke.
Lunch - 1/2 grapefruit - was still full from the late and large brunch.
snack - handful of Cheezits
Dinner - took 6-year-old to Burger King for a treat - so I ended this weird day with a hamburger (the junior whopper - no cheese or mayo) and some of his fries.
snack - other half of grapefruit
glass of red wine

UGH! Can I post again on a more typical day?? http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/wink.gif My veggies for the day consisted of french fries!!!! Ack!

I sent my mom this thread. She was impressed with all you guys. Here is her 2 cents:

I had my one package
of oatmeal (apples-cinammon) and a small banana, and a chicken salad and
an apple for lunch. The ingredient in the salad include greens, tomato,
celery, and 1 chicken breast. We were supposed to top with 1/4 cup of
cottage cheese, but I had to eat my separately. Tonight, we are
supposed to have broiled fish, one corn on the cob, and grean
vegetable. I drink water.

Hmmmm...I'll give this a try too. I don't think I was especially virtuous at all--oh the guilt or actually typing it all out!

Breakfast: big bowl of Kashi with vanilla soy milk, coffee
Snack: piece of orange nut bread someone brought into work
Lunch: Indian--naan, portions of three vegetarian dishes, diet coke
Dinner/Snack: fruit smoothie with bananas, strawberries and vanilla soy milk, cheese quesadilla and small bowl of chipolte chicken stew, 2 slices of a mini poppyseed cake/loaf (hope that makes sense--a poppyseed cake baked in a mini loaf pan) http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/redface.gif and some sips of SO's beer.

I was getting hungry reading about what everybody ate!! maybe it should be mandatory to include any delicious recipes too!!! like that roasted red pepper sauce I saw in one of the responses....I stopped eating meat & I'm always looking for something good to pour on my tuna or pasta or whatever!!!!

Okay...count me in! Yesterday was:

Breakfast - Special K w/skim milk and orange juice

Snack - Graham crackers and an orange

Lunch - Turkey sub w/lettuce, tomato and onion (no mayo..blech!), Baked Lays and a Snapple

Snack - 2 Candy Canes (I still have a box in my desk left from Christmas, and I had to do something to get rid of that onion breath!)

Dinner - 2 pieces of pizza topped w/artichoke, sausage, mushroom and onion. (Not the best way to end the day, but hey I'm pregnant! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif )

We should do this more often...it's certainly an eye-opener to see your diet (compared to that of others) in print!

Please, please tell me that you are all lying through your teeth! A 'bite' of bagel for breakfast? A single caramel for dessert? Do I have a tapeworm or what?

Breakfast: 2 pieces of raisin toast with butter, 2 pieces veggie sausage, 4 cups (yes, 4!) of coffee with Skim milk & sugar

Snack:1 piece of veggie pizza with goat cheese

Lunch : Did 45 cardio class and 1 hour body pump class

Snack: a Big bagel with peanut butter, 1/2 cup applesauce, 2 girlscout cookies (where did those come from in Jan??)

Dinner:a few pieces of low-fat pepperoni to start things off, 2 glasses of skim milk, an entire baked acorn squash, quinoa with lots of veggies, a bowl of ice cream (not low-fat) with choc. syrup AND a coors light beer. (The beer was separate, I did not have it over my ice cream...although there's a thought)

After all that, I rode my bike trainer for about an hour while I watched "Super-Star".(I couldn't look at those little 20-somethings with their flat bellies without feeling guilty!)

Since I am sure that you are wondering how much I weigh - 117lbs..

I even went to bed hungry after eating all of that!

Foodgirl: no, I don't think you have a tapeworm, you just happened to get a lot of exercise that day so you ate to fuel your body. My day on which I posted I was certainly not "lying through my teeth," I just only had time for a short run because I was studying all day so I wasn't really burning much off, thus could not/did not really feel like eating a whole lot. I guess I did forget the 3 cups of coffee I had in the morning, sorry. Anyway, I just think that of course with the amount of exercise you got that day, you could probably eat a ton. On the days when I have that much time to work out, I certainly eat a whole lot more myself too.

Like foodgirl, I eat way more than everyone else, even the pregnant Suasan! I am not overweight-(5'8", 135) but I am always hungry!

Here it goes:
Breakfast: bowl of multigrain cereal with skim milk, pear.
Snack: 1/4 cup almonds
Lunch: 2 pieces of leftover pizza (mushroom and green pepper), green salad
Snack: apple, 1 cup kettle chips, handful of dry cereal
Dinner will be catfish, cauliflower, baked potato.
Dessert, slice of mocha coffee cake.

Only water to drink.

3 mile run.

I guess to see it written down, it's not as bad as I thought it would be!

Food girl if I exercised like you I am sure I would eat way more. I am impressed with all the exercise you get in.

01-13-2001, 07:21 PM
Really? You think I worked off all that crap? Beer AND ice cream? Would you all be less impressed if you knew that I was riding the bike in my pajamas - slowly so that I wouldn't get sweaty?

Lisa

Ps: I have never worked out at lunch-time before and I didn't like it at all!

Aw, shucks, I tried to post a worm graphic in response to food girl s question, but seem to be having technical difficulties. Oh, well...food girl, I hope you know that I m just kidding. http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif Keep it up! It s fantastic to be able to get in a good deal of physical activity and to eat well and copiously.

You all are like straight-A students complaining because you got a 97 on your last exam! Now lets see who's an oinker...I swear, I don't know how my little self burns off all the food I eat in a day!

I was going out of town the day this post came up, but I keep track anyway, so here goes:

Breakfast: 1 bowl (a serving size, not the American version of a bowl) of Complete Bran flaks with about 2/3 c. milk, 1 banana, 1 Earthgrains whole wheat bagel with 1/2 T. light butter

Snack (well, sort of) a couple handfuls of white chocolate chips

Lunch: Whole wheat penne with turnip greens, about 3 ounces of halibut and 2 olives, 3 kings salad (1 navel orange, 1 beet, red onions), 2 sheets graham crackers

Dinner: 2 rosemary-glazed vidalia onion halves, Brussels Sprouts with Browned Garlic (about 10, I think) , 1/2 Balsamic-Glazed Plaintain

Snack: Bowl plain oatmeal with Equal and cinnamon, about 1/4 c. frozen fat free vanilla yogurt, 1 tootsie roll

And I did a 7 mile tempo run that day.
