I always wear a size 8-1/2, or 39 -- it really never varies. I bought a pair of Dansko clogs in a 39 and they feel kinda big. But I'm thinking it's because I'm not used to the style? I did try the 38 and they felt small. So can anyone tell me what kind of a fit is appropriate for this style? (OK, besides the one that feels right!) TIA

Mine always feel kind of "loose" - is that what you mean? If so, then you're fine, I'd think.
Loooooove Dansko.

I think they're supposed to feel that way. They're way too big for me, even in the smallest size, so I can't get any, but I remember reading that you heel is supposed to move in and out of the shoe, they're not supposed to be tight.

LOL!! Erin, I somehow read your signature lines before your actual response. I thought that was an awfully deep reflection on such a small matter :p :p .
Thanks, goils, sounds like they're just fine - my heel does move out of them a bit, but not like I'm a kid playing dress-up!

I was having the same problem -- stuck between two sizes with neither fitting correctly -- so I returned them (I had only walked on carpet) and a more knowledgeable salesperson was there and told me I needed to get my regular size but in narrow. I do not have narrow feet but he was right, for Dansko's to fit correctly, I needed narrow. This was a few years back and at that time they only offered one style in narrow and not the style I originally wanted. I should check them out again -- maybe they have expanded their range since then. HTH.

I'm not a clog person, but I desperately need a new pair of ankle boots to wear to work every day. I have 'bad feet', which translates to a too-short achilles tendon that requires me to have some kind of heel in every shoe to keep from being too flat-footed, which causes intense pain.
A friend recommended Dansko ankle boots. I can't find any in my area to try on, but I found a site online that carries them www.myshoestore.com and the style I'm wanting to try is Bibi. It's a discontinued style, but they are still available online. They're pricey at $150, but considering my foot issues, it'll be money well spent if they work for me.
I called a few shoe stores that raved about Dansko in general, saying that they're just about the best shoe around for excessive standing and walking, so I'm going to give them a try. In this particular style, all of the reviews say that they're very, very snug in comparison to most Dansko styles, so to go up two sizes! I normally wear a size 8 and with the orthotics I put in my shoes as well as a thicker sock, I'm going with a 40. I'm going to order and see what they're like. I'm soooo hoping that all the Dansko hype is correct! :)
The best site I found for reviews on particular styles was www.zappos.com. Reviewers say how the shoe fits and what size they ultimately had to go with in that particular style. They don't have this style in stock anymore, but the reviews are still there so I read 'em all! I recommend reading up on that style you're looking for to see what most people have said about how it fits!
Good luck!
Hey Jewel -- I saw your post about the boots and wanted to point you to the Dansko Outlet site in case you haven't seen it. They have the Bibi boot for $84.95. I don't know if they have the size/color you are looking for, but it's worth a shot to save some money. I love Dansko and always keep an eye on their outlet site in case I can grab a bargain!
Here is a link (I hope this works):

Hi Canice,
I bought my first pair of Dansko clogs just last weekend. I told the guy at the store that I wear between an 8 - 8.5, and he brought out a size 39 (I usually wear size 38 in open-backed clogs). He said "They should feel loose in the back - they'll lift up on your ankle a little. Don't clench your toes when you walk." I almost giggled outloud when he said that last part, but I walked across the room and they felt great. I've worn them for 3 straight days, worrying that the loose part in back would cause a blister, but they didn't! :)
These are the ones I bought:

I love the boots that saw posted - they're next! :D

Thanks Sarah! I saw the outlet, but I'm always nervous when they say 'seconds'. They showed photos of flaws that the shoes could have, and I cowarded out. :o I'd rather spend the extra money and get the new ones, so I can send them back if I need to. With the weird sizing on this particular boot, I want to make sure I can send 'em back!! I'm buying the sable color in size 40, but I'm buying them from another site. I'm gone all next week and I don't want them sitting on my doorstep while I'm across the country, so I'm going to order them when I get back. They look way comfy!!
Sandy, we'll be Boot Buddies. :D

Oh, that's good to hear since I always go with a 39. I've been wearing them around the apartment and they definitely flip, but now that I think of it, that's how regular clogs are...maybe my foot (well, brain) is confused by this hybrid! I was concerned about a blister in the back, too, but where I feel it rubbing some is on one side, where the front and back cuffs are stitched together. Guess I'll just wear them out and about tomorrow. Sandy, are yours the sort of oilcloth or distressed (I always think the word should be "distraught"!) leather? I think we bought the same shoes. I got mine at Nordy's yesterday, and I had this giant Debie vibe nudging me over toward the handbags.

Yes indeed. I wanted something that would go with black and blue, and these seemed to fit the bill. I see Debie probably 3 times a year, and every time I see her, she has hers on. I love my whole-shoe clogs from LLBean, but these are a *tad* dressier (meaning, I can wear them with more than just jeans), so I bit the bullet, walked into The Walking Store, and fell in love. :)

Ya, I'm a one-hit wonder when it comes to shoes. :D

Definitely try the clogs on before you buy them. European sizes tend to be either/or. I used to wear Dansko shoes all the time. Now that I am not on my feet all the time, I dont' have to.

*snort* But I've only seen you on "casual" days, and I've never seen your shoe closet. :p

Sandy, can you tell me what differences you see between your Danskos and the LL Bean whole shoe clog?
I tried really hard to find Danskos that I could wear. They really hurt my feet - more accurately, one of my feet. I think the arch in my right foot might be a bit lower than the one in my left and the arch in my right foot felt a lot of pressure from the wooden sole of the Danskos. I tried a bunch of styles but couldn't find one that worked.
I ended up with Ariats and I really like them but I've been tempted to try the LL Bean version. What has your experience been?
I feel like a teacher "Compare and contrast the merits of the Dansko clog and the LL Bean version of the whole shoe clog" :D

I happened to check this forum for another subject and found this thread. My husband and I own and run a shoe store in Minn. We've carried Dansko for 16 years. They're wonderful shoes, great support and cute styles. It is so important to make sure you don't buy them too short. All of their styles are clogs , with or without backs, so they must slip in the heel. For some people the narrow works great. Sometimes you should just try another pair in the same size as they do vary a bit from shoe to shoe. I almost always wear either Dansko's for naot's to work. We also carry Ariat- they're comfortable as well but aren't quite as firm as the Dansko's. Hope this is some help.

Hi Elaine! :)
Short version is, I can wear both my Bean clogs and my Dansko clogs with jeans, but I would only wear my Dansko clogs to work on business-casual days. They're a *tad* dressier. As shoezoo says, the support is great on the Dansko clog (a little less so in Bean's version).
Clear as mud? ;)

Thanks for your reply, Sandy. If there is a bit less support in the LL Bean version then perhaps they will be more comfortable for me. I'll give them a try. I'm sure they're backordered, but I can wait.
