View Full Version : HELP!!! I need shorts!

I am a good internet shopper/sleuth, but I just cannot find shorts! I'm leaving for Florida on Friday and I only have two pair that fit me :o . There are no shorts to be found in the Chicago area (that I know of).

I am difficult to fit (pear shape - big butt/small waist). I tried Bealls, but they can't get me anything here by Thursday. And even if they could, they're express shipping is ridiculous - $20 per ITEM. Yeah, right. I need to order two sizes of each to try on since sizes run so funny.

Anyway, does anyone know where to get regular shorts - either denim or khaki or something like that (not like nylon or anything)?? Why is it so difficult to find shorts? I know we have cold weather coming, but half the country still has warm weather, not to mention all the people who go on vacation?!! Help!!

I have seen them on clearance racks lately. Target, Kohl's. Maybe also try an outlet mall?

There are a few at both Title Nine (http://www.titlenine.com) and Royal Robbins (http://www.royalrobbins.com). Good luck! :)

You might not like the price tag but first thing that came to mind is a Gander Mountain or Dicks or the like. I think it's about the only places now in the mid west that might still carry shorts. I can't imagine you getting anything shipped to you in time. Otherwise, wait until you get to FLA. I'm sure you can find things there at the discount stores.

You might want to try a sports store that sells golf clothing - such as Dick's or even a store like Izod (at Chicago Premium Outlets in Aurora).

I'm not sure of you time frame or plans in Florida, but you could always try to find some there, as a last resort.

Grace,

Do you have an Eddie Bauer outlet store anywhere nearby? I bought several pairs of shorts there last week. They were on clearance for $7.99, I think.

Good luck!

Even us "warm weather" places already have fall/winter stuff in the stores - shorts have all gone to clearance/sale racks and are quickly disappearing.

Have you tried Nordstrom? They still show quite a few shorts online. My only other suggestion is to go with more "active wear" type shorts, like light hikers or similar that you would find at REI, Title Nine, Prana, Lucy, and the like.

If you belong to Costco or Sam's, you might try there. I've seen some shorts at Costco recently.

Also, do you have time to stop somewhere once you get to Florida? You could probably find something there but, it would all depend on if you have enough time to do that.

Also, if you're going to a resort area of Florida, they might have some available in the resort shops for people who have your very predicament! ;)

If you know they will fit, anything you order can be shipped to the hotel or place you are staying at.

Sierra Trading Post has some too...plus there was a thread about a discount code recently :)

Here in FL the only place that I have been able to find some at a regular store recently was at Target - they are khaki-like, but have some stretch built into them so fit my own weird shape :o. I've seen them in the boutiques too, but didn't want to spend that sort of money for something that I'm going to wear every day around the house. Macys and Dillards both still have capris, but the shorts are on the discount racks and have been pretty well picked over.

target shorts (http://www.target.com/gp/detail.html/ref=br_1_4/602-3943266-1265467?%5Fencoding=UTF8&frombrowse=1&asin=B000FM32V2)

I always thought that they would just sell shorts year round here...but apparently they switch over to selling corduroy pants and sweaters in August just like the rest of the country.

Grace,

Good luck!

She does have an EB outlet store near her cos she took me there last time I visited. :p

Our EB still has some shorts out so I bet the outlet place does too.

Can you still get that employee discount too? ;) Otherwise I can't think of a better place to get shorts than Florida.

Except Bermuda. :D

Wow. Thanks for all the help ladies. I tried Costco and Eddie Bauer - nothing (I did get some cute tops at Eddie Bauer though!).

I also tried Marshalls, TJMaxx, Value City, Kohl's and Target. Nothing.

I may try a pair of those LL Bean shorts - thanks for that link. I already found saw those online shortsd from Target, but they only have white in my size. My big butt in white shorts does not look good! :o

I might also have to go to Dick's and REI.

As for shopping in Florida, that's a no go. We are leaving Friday at 7 am, get into Orlando at 10:30, and plan to be in the Magic Kingdom by noon or one o'clock. We are getting a 4 day park hopper pass, and I guarantee my DH will not go for me spending a half a day of our vacation in a store in search of shorts (I don't want to do that either, for that matter!). I have two pair of shorts that fit me, but that's not enough for five days. Oh why oh why did I have to gain weight. :( I have shorts from last year that don't fit me at all. :( Maybe if I don't eat anything at all for the next four days they might fit.....

I could get the one's I found at Beall's (they're cute and exactly what I'm looking for) and have them shipped to the hotel, but I don't know if any of them will fit. If none of them end up fitting, I'll be screwed.

It's off to Dick's to see what they have! Thanks again ladies. Who knew finding shorts would be this difficult?

Do you have a Land's End "Inlet" store ??
They had tons of shorts for 75% off ...I happened to stop in when DH was using the Kinko's copy service.

I don't know what they have on line or in catalog, but the outlet (or Inlet as they call themselves) had TONS of stuff.

Worst case, you'll just have to shop when you get to florida :D
Have fun!
Sorry...editing to add, I just went back to re-read the other posts and realize you can't shop there. ACK.

Do you have any jeans you love that fit but are ready for the heap??? You can cut the legs off and have denim shorts :o

Have you tried the Bass Pro Shop (http://www.basspro.com/servlet/catalog.SubClass?hvarDept=600&hvarEvent=&hvarClassCode=6&hvarSubCode=2&cmid=APLN_OS_LADIESCLOTHING_PANTSJEANSSHORTS) in your area?

Other sporting good places are a good place to look for shorts as well.

Sometimes I just pack what I've got then shop when I get to my destination. Florida should have plenty of shorts right now, I would hope, so you could stop by a store the day after you settle in maybe? I've had to do this in a pinch with swimsuits, also shorts, for trips to Orlando and it worked out okay.

Enjoy your trip!
