Last week was okay. Made it to the gym 3 times for cardio/weight training. I was pretty bad about snacking over the weekend, but at least the scale hadn't moved as of this morning.

This week I am signing up for a 12 week program at the Y where they give nutritional and physical fitness instruction and you weigh in every week. There may even be before and after photos involved - http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/eek.gif . So, I'm signed up for them to pinch my fat AGAIN....

Laura - I might have to join you in the journaling!

Last week was really good--I ran four times and upped my mileage each time. I was just bummed (as I'm sure most of you know by now from my previous posts) that the weather was so bad and I couldn't run outside. Only lifted weights 2x, though, and am not thrilled with that. Oh well, at least I am getting a few more miles in as the weeks go by . . .

I'm happy to say that i think i finally have the exercising thing back on track, worked out 5 of 7 days, (1 day was plain old lazy and the other we had downpours, which in the desert everything floods). now i just have to start journaling my food again, on a more regular basis' and i think i will be able to lose these 5+ lbs i've put on recently.

laura & lindrusso, journaling is definetly a key thing for me, when it's on paper you really have to be accountable to yourself for how good or bad you did on a particular day, it also helps to see if there are eating patterns that lead to sabotaging your willingness to eat healthier.

Good week. Cross-training every day (still not allowed to run), but ... I can dance again!! Whoo-hoo! Not being able to dance was almost as bad as not being able to run.

I did pretty well last week--ate well, due to journaling as several of you have mentioned, and exercised my goal of four times a week (plus threw in a couple sessions of pilates tapes).

So I feel pretty good. Have seen some weight loss since Christmas and hope that I am not plateauing now--it's nicest when you can almost feel the extra inches falling away!

Plus, I was restricting my diet to really low fat levels and am wondering now if I don't need to be so strict about that (esp. after I read the thread on calories/fat per day)--but then I also wonder if this is working for me and if I up my fat allowance it might stall the "new me." http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif

Any ideas?

Hi everyone-

Last week was ok. I rode on the lifecyle 3x during the week and ran 1x. I lifted 2x so all in all a pretty good week. I still need to lift 3x per week but I am not giving up. I am still eating (snacking more than I should but writing down what I eat during a day seems to make me more cognizant of what I randomly put in my mouth so I am going to try that on random days. Hope everyone else does well.

Last week was good by my new standards. I got in two walks--the most since this illness struck about six weeks ago. I am frustrated by my inability to do more, but I am going to try and get in two walks again this week. Something is better than nothing.
At least the medicine makes me so queasy that I have not gained weight http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif

YAY! I got outside for a run yesterday and it was great. I went 4 miles, but it was very slow--since I have gotten used to that nasty treadmill, I have forgotten that it is a little different on "real" terrain. What about y'all? Does everyone switch their workouts indoors when the weather turns cold? I am going to yoga at 12:30 today and taking a day off from running--since we get law school grades back soon, I definitely need the yoga session to calm me down!!

I think I did pretty well. Been keeping track of my calories and keeping between 1800-2200 calories a day. Ran 3x for a total of 16.2 miles and went to the gym twice. I think I lost a half of a pound, but not sure. Oh yeah, we were suppose to throw away the scale. Sorry!

I ate out a lot this past weekend, but I think I really kept it under control. I feel like each time I choose good food and ate a reasonable portion size. One thing I have noticed is that when I eat more calories, I don't snack like I usually do. Maybe I am starting to only eat when I am hungry. This is huge for me!

One of the places I went to is a Japanese fast food joint that specializes in healthy fast food. It was really good, but this bowl of chicken, rice, and teriaki sauce was 650 calories. I just thought that was high for "light" fast food and would hate to see the regular fast food count. Only 5 fat grams though.

I think there has been a thread on this before but I thought I would post it here. I did an "online" body fat test the other day and I was surprised at how high mine was. I am 5'8 1/2" and weigh 141. My down fall has always been my waist. Even in high school and college when I weighed about 20 pounds less it was usually around 26". Well this test takes your height, weight and waist measurement to come up with your body fat and said mine was at least 26% and probably higher! (I am not going to say my waist measurement now but I can still fit into size 8's no problem.) It has never been that high. It was a great motivator but I am curious about its accuracy. The same site told me my bmi was only 20%. The 2 numbers don't really seem to jive to me. What do the rest of you think.

I'm getting really excited (and a little nervous!); this weekend will be my first marathon-distance long run (16 miles) in my training for Boston. That means longer tempo runs, more intervals and hills -- which is nice for variety.

hhcowgirl, about your cold weather workout question -- I'm not sure what "cold" means to you, but here it doesn't get colder than about 15 in the winter time, and I love running in 20 degree weather, so I never take my workouts indoors unless it's raining hard. When it snowed about 14 inches last year in Chapel Hill, I ran in it every day --those were some of the most exhilarating runs I've ever had!

Laura,

I wouldn't worry too much if your body fat is around 20% as that is what women are supposed to have. Any lower than that will cause problems!! (ammenoria - stopping your menstral cycle - primarily) Also, I've heard that the traditional way to measure BFI is not very accurate - the pincher method, that is. I'm not really sure about the other methods either. Hope this helps!

Wow--Emilycat, you are much better at braving the cold weather than I!! I won't go out for a run if it is below 40. Pathetic, I know. Also, Laura, I agree that you should not let that silly online "test" dishearten you. I am 5'9" and weigh no more than 130 yet I, like you, carry much of it around my waste so those things always tell me that my body fat percentage is too high. But I had it checked with calipers once and they said it was great--so don't let it get you down! (I hate those dumb internet tests. But I do them too!! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif)

This week I got stricken with a painful sinus infection, but the previous week I kicked butt! With no Godiva chocolates or champagne to corrupt my efforts, I worked out five times at the gym (mix of weight training, cardio, and classes) and ate very well. I'm just disappointed that with all the healthy foods I'm cooking, vitamins, supplements, and obsessive handwashing, that I've come down with this horrible head-thrashing sinus thing. I went to the doctor today and was disappointed that he didn't take a drill to my forehead. OUCH :-(((

Pat58 - sorry to hear you've been sick. I know sinus infections are miserable. Knock on wood I haven't gotten one this winter - yet. One tried to get me last week, but it subsided before it really took over - whew! Isn't it ridiculous how fluid can make you feel so miserable if it's hanging out in the wrong places????

Hi! I didn't see a post for this week, so I thought I'd post on this thread. I've been wanting to join in on this post for a while but thought I better actually be working out before I did it! So, this week my goal is to get back into my pre-wedding exercise and eating routine.

For my wedding (last May) I lost 8 pounds and a full pants size. I not only looked good but felt so much better. Since returning from my honeymoon, I have not gotten back into my exercise routine and I've gained all the weight back http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/frown.gif

So, this week I plan to go back to the beginning goals of my old routine. My goal this week is to workout on the elliptical trainer four times for 1/2 hour and do 15 minutes of weight training alternating between upper and lower each day.

Anyway, I wanted to post this here so that I have made a commitment "out loud" that I have to keep. Thanks for being there and I'll let you know how I do.
