I'm supposed to only have clear liquids, no red food coloring allowed, all day today in preparation for a routine colonoscopy tomorrow. What about green? This is my chance for a Sonic Cherry Limeade (the real thing, not diet), but I can't remember if it's green or has red cherry juice in it. What do you think?

Call them and ask. Or does Sonic have a website that you can check out?

It has cherry syrup in it, and I can't imagine that it would be so natural as to not have red food coloring in it. I'm sorry. :(

I believe it's the same cherry syrup that they use in their slushies, but mixed with sprite and a lime squeezed in. I used to like them until I saw them making one once...ick.

Sorry, I'd be willing to bet it does have red food coloring but the regular limeade wouldn't....

I looked on their website, and it's pink. You know, I never really looked at it since it's in a styro cup with a lid. I guess I'll wait. I just thought it was a good excuse to drink the non-diet version. :D

Ick? Why? Sprite ... lime ... cherry syrup (aka grenadine) ... what's "ick" about that, especially if you've had one and enjoyed it?

You could get the fresh lime slushy. It's sprite and lime juice. No cherries. Get a couple of the Route 66 sizes and stick them in the freezer for tonight.
The lime juice will help replace the electrolites you'll be losing.

It probably would be considered a clear liquid, because when I put in clear liquid diets on our patients I see them getting juice, jello, and broth, and those things aren't clear in the water sense.
I agree with Robyn on the red food coloring though, I wouldn't be surprised if that's in there.

Having been down the colonoscopy road recently, if there's any red dye in the bev it ISN'T clear. Green is fine, blue is fine, brown (like natural broth) is fine but red dye is a no no. Something about staining your insides and making a false reading on your scoping. My cut, when in danger avoid drinking/eating the beverage - there's no reason to have to do a colonoscopy more than you have to.
Just my $0.02 worth though.

RN checking in here... red food coloring isn't recommended before a colonoscopy not because it's not a clear liquid (anything you can see through is considered a clear liquid, even if it's colored), but because the red coloring in the bowel can mimic the appearance of blood. I think it's up to the individual doctor whether they want to you to avoid red liquids before the colonoscopy - I don't remember being warned against it when I had mine.

Beer is a clear liquid. :DYeah, but it's a diuretic, and you do NOT want to be any more dehydrated than the bowel prep will make you  .

Thanks all. For once, beer didn't even sound good!
It's all over, it was a piece of cake after the HalfLytely was done. Now I'm good for 10 years!
I thought I'd eat everything in the house when I got home, but strangely I'm not. I did have that limeade though, I just waited till after the procedure.
