My husband & I are driving to Des Moines for 10/6 & 7. We are staying in the Jordan Creek area. Any great shopping or resturants I check outside of the JC area? We love Flemings and plan to eat there one of the nights.

If you like to shop you'll be in shopping heaven. Of course I don't know where you are coming from. If Chicago, Ca. N.Y., you get me, you won't be impressed. I live here and am 5 min. from Jordan Creek and lived here for 26 years and can say we really came a long way. There is also Century Movies that have about 20 screens if you like movies. You can also venture out and see what is going on when you are here. Winterset bridges will be having their festival going on this month, you need to get info from the Chamber of Commerce. You didn't say when you were going to be here. Our downtowntown area also has a lot to see, the skywalks, night life etc. I hope you have a good time. Don't be afraid to venture out. :)

Coming from The Twin Cities. We always break up our Kansas road trip and stay a night in Des Moines. we shop at the JCreek Mall. This time we will arrive Friday afternoon and stay until Sunday and hopefully shop & eat! Are there any Home Decor stores? Thanks for your help.

Pottery Barn, WmSonoma, Kirklands, Dillards, Younkers,Bed,Bath and Beyond. also in the area is another mall, Valley West. Many stores and in addition is J.C.Penney Home Store, Target, Stein Mart. Also no shortage in places to eat. I hope you post after your return home, I would like to hear your thoughts about the area. A venture north would take you to Mn. and the Mall Of America, the number of stores is numbing. Plus the Amusement Park all indoors. And many a number of places to eat and stay the night.

Christopher's Resturant is a wonderful resturant in Des Moines. I suggest you Mapquest it and give it a try.

I used to live near the Mall of America, but I like Jordan Creek too. I guess it is what you want, but the amusement park never appealed too much too me at MOA. If you go to MOA, check out Tucci Bunucci (sp?) My dear friend and I always lunched there when we were shopping. Sorry to divert from Des Moines.

I like Cosi Cucina and Cool Basil (Thai). The latter is very close to our Penzey's! As for shopping, West Des Moines' Valley Junction area is very unique; if you're Christmas shopping for kids or grandkids, check out The Learning Post (books, toys) or Suite Dreams (furniture, decorations, toys).

There is a very quaint shopping area in West DesMoines called Valley Junction which has over a hundred shops, antiques, quilt shop, scrapbooking store etc. A wonderful way to spend a day to shop, eat, etc. Please post after your return home and tell of your trip. We get a bum rap here about Iowa and the DesMoines area. Most people are pleasantly suprised after a visit. ;)

Thanks for the great ideas. Living in MN, we do have a great selection of shopping. Thou,I do love to wander from the area. The Christopher's idea sounds like a possabilty. I will post when we return. I think Des Moines is a great get away with out traveling as far as Chicago or KC. I have only been to Des Moines one night at a time. So, we will wander around since we are staying for 2 nights.
