Hi,

I was just wondering if others are following the program outlined in the Jan/Feb issue. If so, are others incorporating other exercises besides just walking?

I've also noticed that my muscles seem to be out of sync, in the sense that some muscles are stronger than others. So where I could tolerate doing bicep curls with 10 LB weights or more, I can't do the lateral lift with them. Or I can do squats with 10lbs, but can't lift 10lbs over my head. Anyone else experiencing that, and how are you dealing with it? (I suppose I sound like a weakling, but I haven't been lifting for about 2 mos. because I was taking an exercise class regularly, which has now run its course, so I'm back to the weights.)

It is natural to have different strengths in different body areas. Some exercises that use a small muscle will require a low weight; big muscles, like the leg muscles, can usually handle larger amounts. I also find that when you do an exercise that makes a body part do something it doesn't usually do - i.e., a side lateral raise (how often do you lift your elbows out to the side with weight in your hands?) the muscle group will feel weaker. The important thing is to use a weight that is safe and comfortable, but still challenging. FORM is the key. For some arm exercises, you might be challenged just doing the move with no weight at first!
