View Full Version : What do you wear when you want to feel your best?

I am missing summer. I have one outfit in the summer that really makes me feel fit and in shape. I have a pair of board shorts from Old Navy and a gray ribbed tank top that I wear with them. I always felt great wearing it because it showed off my shoulders and arms which I think are my best features. I have other outfits that are similar, but don't quite have the same effect. My winter outfit is an old pair of jeans, a black turtleneck and some black boots. What about the rest of you? What outfit do you have that makes you feel good as soon as you put it on.
When I thought of this, it kind of surprised me that I don't really have a dressy outfit that has the same affect on me.

I can't think of a specific outfit, but winter clothes do not do it for me. I cannot find winter clothes that I like. I always feel frumpy no matter how "nice" the outfit. I might as well be wearing sweats.

Great topic, Laura!
When I want to feel my best and am wearing something dressy, I will sometimes go for a kind of sexy suit - like a short skirt (though NOT a la Ally McBeal; this is WORK, after all!) and a well-fitting (though NOT skintight! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif) jacket. Black and red are probably my best colors. I have a black suit that has a jacket with gold buttons all the way down the front; I really like that one. But when you think of it, I also like one of my navy blue suits, a purple one, one of my grey ones... (can you tell that I love clothes?) http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif
If I m going casual, I have two favorite pairs of jeans (one black, one plain denim, both slim classic cut) and some pretty, light sweaters. One is a cashmere blend pale pink, one is a medium blue zip-up, and the third is a periwinkle blue that s almost off-the-shoulder. In the summer, I also have a couple favorite pairs of shorts.
I also have workout/running clothes that I particularly love: a few pairs of shorts, one pair of running tights, and assorted comfy shirts.
Now I want to check out Old Navy! Do you think they still have those shorts?

I hope they will have them again this summer. I bought them on a whim, and my daughter (who is quite hip, although thankfully not ala Britney Spears (not that I would let her dress that way anyway!)) promptly told me that I looked like I was 29!
It just seemed that whenever I wore them, I felt great so consequently people would tell me that I looked good, which of course made me feel even better, and the story goes on http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/tongue.gif

I have a pair of kick-a** black leather pants that I wear and they instantly make me feel great. It's really hard to find pants that are long enough for me, and they are perfect, plus, IMO, they are slenderizing. I think my BF is going to burn them, though, if he sees them one more time! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif

Interesting topic. I must say that this is one of the things that has really motivated me to work out - I don't feel good in clothes - period. I haven't done any serious shopping in years because of it. I'm used to looking like I did at size 5/6 and nothing else feels right.
I'm now in the process of changing that attitude. I now realize that in order to achieve my goals, I have to feel better about the way that I look NOW! Even if it means buying clothes several sizes larger than I'd like.
Right now what makes me feel good is jeans and a twin set or almost anything black. I have finally realized that my big t-shirts and other baggy things only make me look fatter!

Without a doubt it is my black leather pants. I have a great black and red blouse/leotard to go with them. I also have a couple suits that I love to wear to feel sexy, but they are both a bit tight right now http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/frown.gif

When the weather is warm, I like to wear long flowy dresses with a light cardigan sweater, some walking sandals, and my big straw hat. When I lived in California, I would go for a walk down the entire length of Golden Gate Park, ending at the beach. Since it's usually a bit too cold to actually just sit there, I would stroll down the beach and pick up sand dollars. It was so nice and I always felt wonderful! Now I live in Boston, and I seem to have accumulated alot of black clothing, in accordance with the freezing cold weather here. I don't know how one can think too much about how one's appearance in the winter...I'm too busy trying to keep warm! I have an enormous down coat that is rated to a -40 degree comfort level...it's huge, with a down-filled hood edged with wool that looks kind of like fur, which zips up until there is a very small opening for me to see and breathe out of. It's so big and thick that my arms stick out slightly when I wear it and people frequently laugh at me when they see me, saying we're not in the North Pole or I look like Kenny from South Park. Even complete strangers have made comments about my coat! However, it has made life in Boston much more pleasant since I am actually WARM in this coat, and in answer to the original question, I really feel my best when I don't feel like hypothermia is about to set in. http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/wink.gif The summer is a bit humid in Boston, but the late spring and early autumn are lovely, and that's when I get out my long flowy dresses again. http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif

I have a black linen sheath with a matching jacket that I wore to job interviews last summer. I credit that outfit with a couple of fabulous job offers. Now I wear it for important meetings or presentations because it makes me look and feel incredible. As an added bonus, it's comfortable and travels well.
